Disk write Error. permalink Well I just got that yellow bubble that told me to perform chkdsk and before checking up on iPodlounge for what to do, I decided to restore my iPod. But when I click on restore, I get this message "Firmware update failure. Disk write Error." I read that you can use 3.0.1 to restore or something and maybe that will help but I can
Java Web Services Wireless Java Article: iPod shuffle Tips and Tricks Subject: DEAD iPOD SHUFFLE CAME TO LIFE: A TRUE TO LIFE STORY Date: 2007-01-13 06:08:29 From: PILIPINO DEAD IPOD SHUFFLE CAME TO LIFE: A TRUE TO LIFE STORY by Wreigh Paris, Lorica Law Office, Urdaneta City (Pangasinan), Philippines MONTHS AGO and as a paralegal officer of said law office, I normally used my 1GB iPod Shuffle (hereinafter referred to as Shuffle for brevity) both as an MP3 Player and a Memory Flash Drive. And for a http://forums.ilounge.com/ipod-classic-legacy-ipods/97279-help-please-firmware-update-failure-disk-write-error.html number of months from date of acquisition, I had no problem with it until my PC started failing to open it via double mouse clicks but with explore on My Computer. Uneasy with said unexpected development, I tried to restore it to its factory settings using the latest iPod Software Updater but it didnt respond and showed a Disk write error instead. The http://archive.oreilly.com/cs/user/view/cs_msg/88404 same goes when I tried to update its firmware, commonly known as the hardwares driver. So, I had to settle with said problem. But, one day, as I turned on my Shuffle, it failed to play any song and the yellow LED light thereof remained lit and stayed as such without a blink. What could be wrong? What have I possibly done to destroy such a costly gadget?, I thought. What followed is seeing myself inside an internet caf as I frantically googled for any possible solution that could bring my precious Shuffle to life but none of the solutions I downloaded and copied ever brought my presumed dead Shuffle to life. Neither the iPod Shuffle Database Builder nor the iPod Reset Utility softwares ever changed its state. With no single song ever played, I settled using my Shuffle as a Memory Flash Drive, to which I saved my office files onto. And with that, I kept myself satisfied having a 1GB iPod Shuffle. Then, I made a long distance call to the only Apple Service Center in the Philippines (I think) and that is, Power Mac of
version 1.0.1 of its Reset Utility for the first generation of its iPod Shuffle music player. The utility, when activated, erases all music and data from the iPod Shuffle and installs http://www.powerpage.org/apple-updates-first-generation-ipod-shuffle-reset-utility/ version 1.1.4 of the software. The software, a 2.1 megabyte download through VersionTracker.com, https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ib24L97NHQVbGHHT7ZaPylMjud7tOZ7l2aTFl7gdlcs/edit applies only to the first generation of the iPod Shuffle, which shipped in 512 megabyte and one gigabyte capacities. Later generations of the Shuffle, including current, smaller versions, are not supported by the Reset Utility. The Reset Utility repairs the following issues: -With the iPod shuffle switched on, pressing the ipod shuffle Play button will cause amber and green LEDs to flash for a few seconds, and the unit will not play any music, nor can you sync music to it from iTunes. -On a Windows PC, the iPod shuffle will appear in My Computer as a “Removable Disk,” however the iPod shuffle volume will not mount correctly. The unit is listed in Device Manager ipod shuffle disk under “Disk Drives” as “Apple iPod USB Device.” -On a Mac, the unit will only be recognized in Apple System Profiler under Hardware -> USB and will not appear or mount in the Finder. -When attempting to restore, the unit may not be recognized at all. However, if it is recognized, the restore may fail with an error dialog “Firmware update failure. Disk write error” or another error. It may take three restore attempts before the error appears. Note: iPod shuffle may take several minutes to be recognized. The iPod Shuffle Reset Utility requires a first generation iPod Shuffle and Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later to run. If you've had experience with this utility, either positive or negative, please let us know.
