After giving up, I just copied every file from the website and ran make as instructed. It says cout is not a member of std... but cout is ALWAYS a member of std (as far as I know) so it's very frustrating. g++ -c -o ServerSocket.o ServerSocket.cpp g++ -c -o Socket.o Socket.cpp Socket.cpp: In member function ‘int Socket::recv(std::string&) const’: Socket.cpp:135:7: error: ‘cout’ is not a member of ‘std’ make: *** [Socket.o] Error 1 If something is not broken, fix it! Modfy every bit of it you can! Break it! This is how improvement and real education happens. Adv Reply November 2nd, 2011 #2 crdlb View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Tea Glorious Tea! Cause IDE: C++ Builder 6.0 Compiler: Borland BCC32.EXE version 6.0.10.157 Project type: Console Application int main()
{
std::cout << "Hello world" << std::endl;
}
Solution The compiler was unable to find the definition of std::endl. #include the header file iostream so it does: #include <iostream>
int main()
{
std::cout << "Hello world" << std::endl;
}
