Ha, seen this before Gambit. She has not done the proper procedure of remove drive then actually physicaly removing the drive. You will need to do the following 1. plug the drive in to the machine 2. goto start control planel | system | device manager 3. scrol down to Universal Serial Bus controlers 4. right click USB Mass Storage Device and delete driver. 5. unplug the Usb storage drive and plug it back in. See what happens there. She will have buggered up the mass storage device drivers and In extreme sercumstances will have to do a file recovery on the drive and then format the thing. You may want to show here how to remove a drive properly so it dosent happen to her again in the future Send PM 17th October 2007,04:09 PM #3 Gambit Join Date Feb 2007 Posts 34 Thank Post 0 Thanked 2 Times in 2 Posts Rep Power 20 Re: USB drive is not formatted!!!! happy: I tried what you suggested and it did not work. Do you want to format it now? The flash drives working on other computers, but not here. Right clicking and choosing open is not working either. Also in command line I: command says: The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that volume is not corrupted. Even when trying to format the drive it says: Windows was unable to complete format Its only disk is not working for NTFS drives (not FAT and FAT32). I've also copied fastfat.sys from a working copy to my current system32/drivers folder but it didn't worked. Also in disk management File System column is empty for drive I. Can anybody help ? windows-xp hard-drive usb usb-flash-drive format share|improve this question edited Jan 25 '14 at 7:29 asked Jan 25 '14 at 7:10 Billy 12 1 It's obvious that there is an issue with the machine, not the drive; do not attempt to format the drive with a faulty machine. It could be a driver issue or a broken usb port (try another port, preferably at the back of the machine) –Hashbrown Jan 25 '14 at 14:04 @Hashbrown I tried all thigns you mentioned. usb drives dont have any problem as they work with NTFS drives. –Michel Gokan Jan 25 '14 at 17:37 add a comment| active oldest votes You must log in to answer this question.
