Error #1065 Variable Tcmtext Is Not Defined
View Forum Posts Visit Homepage 41 posts Registered User ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable is not defined. Good people of Kirupa. Please help me out with this error message. No matter how simple my class is Flash gives me this error message : "ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable is not defined." In fact, it happens even if I don' have any variables at all. It won't even run a simple "hello world" trace

from the constructor method. From what I've learned from other people, this could often be caused by not declaring your classes public, but I have that. Any ideas on what causes this? Code: package { import flash.display.Sprite; public class SimpleClass extends Sprite { public function SimpleClass() { trace("Hello world"); } } } See if you can at least run this as a document class. It's very annoying and the error message doesn't really provide me with any valuable information (or maybe it does, only I'm not smart enough to figure it out..) Anything in particular I should be careful about the document class referencing? Best Reply With Quote September 11th, 2007,08:21 PM #4 Michael Chen View Profile View Forum Posts 938 posts ... (1) You're not using Flex, right? (2) Is the class file in the same directory as the Flash file? The particular code I am using is var tileID:String = String(getDefinitionByName("evt.target.data."+mapData[i][j])) mapData is already populated by a character in each position. The plan is that I can use the value of whatever mapData is as the variable name for the conversion of the single character to the full linkage name of a tile. These properties come from another external .txt file that is setup for variables (this is the is not defined external file the code line links to). The variables in the external file look something like &N=exampleTile. So when it comes to setting tileID it should end up being exampleTile. (Assuming mapData[i][j] = "N"). But it doesn't. I have read around at other solutions saying that the file may not have loaded or anything, but I can't make sense of or apply any of those fixes. arrays actionscript-3 external runtime-error share|improve this question asked Jan 13 '13 at 7:00 HalfBit 2710 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted As Florian points out, getDefinitionByName is specifically for getting a Class reference. Something like "flash.net.URLLoader" would give you a reference to the URLLoader class for example. It's not used for getting regular variables by their names (so "evt.target.data.N" wouldn't return anything even if "N" was a property of data). It sounds like your evt.target.data is a long string along the lines of "A=tileA&B=tileB&C=tileC". If so, you need to parse that string out to separate variables first. You should be able to use URLVariables with that data format (flash.net.URLVariables), then you can read the parsed variables using the [ ] array access operator: urlVariablesObject["variableName"]. So you might do something like this: import flash.events.Event; import flash.net.URLVariables; import flash.net.URLLoader; import flash.net.URLRequest; var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); var parsedData:URLVariables; var mapData:A

I have another flash file B which contains buttons, labels, and others. The flash B file uses scaleform CLIK components and works great by itself. But it fails when I try to load flash B from flash A. It says 'ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable DefaultLabel is not defined.' The DefaultLabel component is shown in Library from flash B file. And again, it works good when I run flash B file independently. I think flash A can not see DefaultLabel or similar thing but I'm a newbie to flash & actionscript. So I can not figure out how to solve this problem. Any advise would be appreciate. Added. I used flash.display.Loader to load flash B and added it to flash A by addChild(). actionscript-3 flash share|improve this question edited Apr 23 '14 at 4:48 asked Apr 23 '14 at 4:33 SeniorLee 4181922 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted It could be that the definition is in different application domain which means that it is not available to outside of containing SWF (flash B), try to load to the domain of flash A: var ldr:Loader = new Loader(); var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("flash_b.swf"); var context:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext(); context.applicationDomain = ApplicationDomain.currentDomain; ldr.load(request, context); share|
