he went and got all the ftp and database setup and I can do the ftp for it, but, when I try to go into the database using something like heidisql or mysql toolkit it gives me an error: Host'XX-XXX-XXX-XXXX.dhcp.unas.al.charter.com' is not allowed to connect to this mysql server. I called charter and they said they couldn't do anything on their end so I am assuming it may be a setting in his cpanel on his server host machine name is not allowed to connect to this mysql server to allow remote access to it? Or if I'm completely off, how would this work? EDIT: I would like to know how to get it to work by going to a cmd line and running a local mysql.exe and then connecting -u user -p -h xxx.xxx.x.xx mysql database share|improve this question edited Nov 13 '13 at 1:47 asked Nov 13 '13 at 1:38 user2701687 871312 try to connect via an http tunnel - heidi instructions here mysql-tools.com/articles/http-tunnel/… –G-Man Nov 13 '13 at 1:43 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote No, Charter wouldn't be able to do anything about it, because that's an error coming directly from the MySQL server, because your IP address is not among the hosts configured for access. I'm just trying to connect remotely to my MySQL server. connecting as mysql -u root -h localhost -p works fine, but trying mysql -u root -h 'any ip address here' -p fails with the error ERROR http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1559955/host-xxx-xx-xxx-xxx-is-not-allowed-to-connect-to-this-mysql-server 1130 (00000): Host ''xxx.xx.xxx.xxx'' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server In the mysql.user table, there is exactly the same entry for user 'root' with host 'localhost' as another with host '%'. You could try adding a new administrator account: mysql> CREATE USER 'monty'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'some_pass'; mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'monty'@'localhost' -> WITH GRANT OPTION; mysql> CREATE USER 'monty'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'some_pass'; mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'monty'@'%' -> WITH GRANT OPTION; Although as Pascal and others have noted it's not a great idea to have a user with this kind of access open to any IP. If you need an administrative user, use root, and leave it on localhost. For
