The following code snippet highlights some text by searching for and modifying the respective text nodes. Text node searching is done by using a Jquery functionality: window.addEventListener("load", highlightSummarySentences , false); function highlightSummarySentences() { var docName = thisPage; var numSentences = getCookie(docName+"Num"); var linkSentenceNum = getCookie(docName

We have a page which uses Varnish to set a cookie on page load. The contents of the cookie is a JSON object, however the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5216631/javascript-does-not-recognize-function object params are wrapped in single quotes ( ' ) instead of double-quotes ( " ) due to a dumb reason I won't go into here. Anyway, using js-cookie, I attempt to read in the cookie data like so: var utilCookie = Cookies.get('utilCookie'); if (typeof utilCookie === 'undefined') { // performs a failsafe by falling back to a default value } else { // uses the value of the cookie elsewhere in the app } So the problem here is https://github.com/js-cookie/js-cookie/issues/94 occasionally, that undefined block is being tripped. We know the cookie is being set by the server so the issue isn't on our end. We've noticed that it happens most frequently with mobile users using in-app browsers (such as hitting the page from a Facebook share link, inside the Facebook App). How extensively has js-cookie been tested with these in-app browsers? What is the read time for js-cookie? I imagine it should be near instantaneous, but I'm curious if it's not and we're getting undefined because the value hasn't been fully loaded into memory. Dunno, grasping at straws here, but any input / food for thought is appreciated! js-cookie member FagnerMartinsBrack commented Sep 30, 2015 Sup. however the object params are wrapped in single quotes ( ' ) instead of double-quotes ( " ) due to a dumb reason I won't go into here. Well that's non standard. If you use Cookies.getJSON you might get the correct version or you might not. I believe most browsers accept single quoted keys, but the JSON spec says that double quotes are mandatory so you can't expect this to work everywhere =/. We don't know of any browser compatibility regarding this and we have no test either, we just use JSON.parse as long as the cookie value starts with either [ or { when using Cookies.getJSON. Before the advent of HTML5 and its new mechanisms, every developer used cookies to achieve this goal. Unfortunately, working with cookies in JavaScript can cause a lot of headaches. This article discusses what cookies are, and how you can build functions to create, retrieve, and delete them. What are Cookies? A cookie is a piece of data which is sent from a website and stored locally by the user's browser. Cookies are needed because HTTP is stateless. This means that HTTP itself has no way to keep track of a user's previous activities. One way to create state is by using cookies. To Use Cookies or Not to Use Cookies Today most, if not all, websites worldwide use cookies. However, cookies are rather limited, as they can only store up to 4KB of data. Moreover, many developers claim that because cookies are sent to the server with each HTTP request, large ones can consume considerable network bandwidth, hurting performance. Another important criticism against cookies has been written by Remy Sharp in the co-authored book Introducing HTML5. This can be potentially catastrophic for mobile connections. Another important point to keep in mind is that if you have European visitors, then your site must comply with the EU E-Privacy Directive from May 26, 2012. If you never heard about this, take a look at Why Your Site is Now Illegal in Europe. In recent years, a lot of thought has been put towards finding an alternative to cookies. Tha
