Error 1325 Username Is Not A Valid Short File Name
7 Pro system: Error 1352. 'username' is not a valid short file name. Username = my username. I've combed the Interwebs and found everything there is to know about this http://superuser.com/questions/258239/error-1325-username-is-not-a-valid-short-file-name error and nothing that's been suggested seems to fix it. I have figured out that the MSI is attempting to create temp files in my home directory (benradlinski) and it's not able to do that for some unknown reason. I can open the directory via my "personal" folder, so it's not a question of access.I have folder redirection set up https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/2ef818c3-a46e-471e-b9a5-cd94a4426435/error-1352-username-is-not-a-valid-short-file-name?forum=w7itprogeneral through a GPO on our network so "Documents" "Pictures" etc. are all pointed to each users home share.I have Admin rights to the system.I turned UAC off, just to be sure and I'm still unable to install anything.I tried logging in using one of our Admin accounts and I do NOT get the error there.I'm at my wits end.Has anyone else seen this? Then let's add GPO one at a time to find out which GPO causes such an issue. Meanwhile, as it is server related issue, I recommend that let's create a new thread on Windows Server forum for further help: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver Marked as answer by MedicalSMicrosoft contingent staff, Moderator Tuesday, October 20, 2009 2:19 AM Monday, October 12, 2009 9:52 AM Reply | Quote Moderator All replies 0 Sign in to vote Update: I went into HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explor

I'm going to analyse two of them. 1) I've recently downloaded the latest version of Windows messenger http://www.itninja.com/question/another-not-a-valid-short-file-name-problem and when trying to install it i get the following error. "metakinoumena" is not a valid short file name" Just that, no error code. 2)When trying to uninstall J2SE RE 5.0 update 6 i get the following error "Error1325.metakinoumena http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/174197/avoiding-error-1325-esripyfldr-not-valid-short-file-name-when-uninstalling-arcgi is not a valid short file name" In both cases "metakinoumena" seems to be the problem but the thing is that this is a Greek word! I don't have any file named metakinoumena in my pc and i don't know is not what to do to make things work. If anyone has any idea i would be glad to hear it. Thank you all in advance, John 1 Comment [ + ] Show Comment Comments paulrd 3 years ago last edited 3 years ago Have you ever tried Long Path Tool, if not then just download it and start using it. The FileName in the File table for the '[2]' entry is incorrect, should be "short name|long name". John, are you using this in a corporate environment and if so do you have anyone packaging applications for the environment? Or are you using this at home? EsriPyFldr is not a valid short file name. The error message dialog appears just after: Computing space requirements seems to complete. If anyone else has encountered this, then have you been able to find a way to get past it and uninstall ArcGIS 10.3.1 for Desktop? My machine has what I would call a vanilla install of ArcGIS 10.3.1 for Desktop and ArcGIS Pro 1.1.1 so there are Python versions 2.7.8 and 3.4.1 as a result. ArcGIS Earth Beta is also on the machine. I have made a posting on the same issue to https://geonet.esri.com/message/575655#575655 After running this utility (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall) unsuccessfully (it hung for two hours before I killed it) the error message when trying to uninstall shifted to: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed ArcMap 10.3.1 continues to start fine and doing wmic product where "Vendor like '%Environmental Systems Research Institute%'" get Name, Version, InstallDate, InstallLocatio
