What went wrong? It was attempted to call a value like a function, but the value is not actually a function. Some code expects you to provide a function, but that didn't happen. Maybe there is a typo in the function javascript uncaught typeerror is not a function name? Maybe the object you are calling the method on does not have this function? For example, JavaScript objects have no map function, but JavaScript Array object do. There are many built-in functions in need of a (callback) function. You will have to provide a function in order to have these methods working properly: When working with Array or TypedArray objects: Array.prototype.every(), Array.prototype.some(), Array.prototype.forEach(), Array.prototype.map(), Array.prototype.filter(), Array.prototype.reduce(), Array.prototype.reduceRight(), Array.prototype.find() When working with Map and Set objects: Map.prototype.forEach() and Set.prototype.forEach() Examples A typo in the function name In this case, which happens way too often, there is a typo in the method name: var x = document.getElementByID("foo"); // TypeError: document.getElementByID is not a function The correct function name is getElementById: var x = document.getElementById("foo"); Function called on the wrong object For certain methods, you have to provide a (callback) function and it will work on specific objects only. In this example, Array.prototype.map() is used, which will work with Array objects only. var obj = { a: 13, b: 37, c: 42 }; obj.map(function(num) { return num * 2; }); // TypeError: obj.map is not a function Use an array instead: var nu

hello https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Errors/Not_a_function This will throw an "Uncaught TypeError: object is not a function". If I wrap the anonymous function call/invocation in another set of parentheses it will execute the alert, but still give me an error. If I put a semi-colon after the "var postTypes" definition then it will completely fine. I http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4026891/javascript-uncaught-typeerror-object-is-not-a-function-associativity-question was led to believe that javascript does not require semi-colons, so I'm making a guess that there is some weird associativity rules of function application that I am not fully understanding. I hope someone can give me the answer to why I am getting this error. Thanks. javascript share|improve this question edited Oct 26 '10 at 18:52 user166390 asked Oct 26 '10 at 18:42 PolandSpring 92131631 Looks almost like you are trying to create both an anonymous function and static function and expecting it to execute as one. What happens if you remove function() –brumScouse Oct 26 '10 at 18:45 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 64 down vote accepted Javascript does require semi-colons, it's just that the interpret will insert it for you on line-breaks when the code becomes syntax-error without it*. Unfortunately, the code var a = new B(args)(stuff)() is not a syntax error, so no ; will be inserted. (An example which can run is var answer = new Function("x", "return x")(function(){return 42;})(); ) To avoid surprises like this, train yourself to always end a statement with ;. (*: Just a thumb-rule. Not always true. The insertion rule is much more complicated. This blog page about semicolon insertion has more detail.) share|improve this answer edited Oct 26 '10 at 18:51 answered Oct 26 '10hiringApply as a DeveloperLoginQuestions?Contact UsHire a developerBuggy JavaScript Code: The 10 Most Common Mistakes JavaScript Developers MakeView all articlesby Ryan J. Peterson https://www.toptal.com/javascript/10-most-common-javascript-mistakes - Software Engineer @ Toptal #FrontEnd #JavaScript #Web0sharesToday, JavaScript is at the core of virtually all modern web applications. The past several years in particular have witnessed the http://magento.stackexchange.com/questions/33348/uncaught-typeerror-undefined-is-not-a-function-when-using-a-jquery-plugin-in-ma proliferation of a wide array of powerful JavaScript-based libraries and frameworks for single page application (SPA) development, graphics and animation, and even server-side JavaScript platforms. JavaScript has truly is not become ubiquitous in the world of web app development and is therefore an increasingly important skill to master. At first blush, JavaScript may seem quite simple. And indeed, to build basic JavaScript functionality into a web page is a fairly straightforward task for any experienced software developer, even if they’re new to JavaScript. Yet the language is is not a significantly more nuanced, powerful, and complex than one would initially be lead to believe. Indeed, many of JavaScript’s subtleties lead to a number of common problems that keep it from working – 10 of which we discuss here – that are important to be aware of and avoid in one’s quest to become a master JavaScript developer. Common Mistake #1: Incorrect references to this I once heard a comedian say: “I’m not really here, because what’s here, besides there, without the ‘t’?” That joke in many ways characterizes the type of confusion that often exists for developers regarding JavaScript’s this keyword. I mean, is this really this, or is it something else entirely? Or is it undefined? As JavaScript coding techniques and design patterns have become increasingly sophisticated over the years, there’s been a corresponding increase in the proliferation of self-referencing scopes within callbacks and closures, which are a fairly common source of “this/that confusion”. Consider this example code snippet: Game.prototype.restart = function () { this.clearLocalStorage(); this.timer = setTimeo

Magento has a known issue when you try to use jQuery in Magento because Magento uses the Prototype library. The work around for it is to put your jQuery code in no conflict mode like this... jQuery.noConflict(); Once I did this, it resolved 90% of my problems i was having with JavaScript errors. However I still have 3 major problems with JavaScript right now and I believe they are related... Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function When I view the line numbers that it is reporting these errors from I see this... Line 1168 jQuery(".acc-wizard").accwizard({ now this accwizard() is a function that is loaded from a jQuery plugin file. I have verified the file is loaded and it is loaded after my jQuery and after I set the no conflict mode for jQuery. I am not sure if something in the plugin file needs to be changed as well to work with the no conflict mode or why it is saying it is undefine? Same situation with simplecolorpicker() on line 1180. I have uploaded the file that holds the accwizard() jQuery Plugin, it is about 14kb in size and can be found
