Check the address and try again" Hello, I got this error message this morning for my links. I re did them all and they worked fine. Even after saving, closing then reopening, http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/excel-questions/891201-excel-hyperlink-error-message-address-site-not-valid-check-address-try-again.html logging out and back in to my user account and rebooting. However, this afternoon they have all broken again and present the same error message. I found some guidance on this page: Hyperlink Error-Excel 2010 - Microsoft Community by changing the hyperlinks base within the 'Info' section to be my user domain. However this presented with another error message: "Cannot open the specified file". Any advice or help would be great thanks! Excel hyperlink problem Started by hulud , Nov 17 2005 10:16 AM Please log in to reply #1 hulud Posted 17 November 2005 - 10:16 AM hulud Member Member is not 268 posts we have an excel spreadsheet that contains hyperlinks to pdf files on the same server. sometimes the links open, but after closing out the file and re-opening it, the hyperlinks no longer work. they work the first time, and they work from other computers, so the problem is limited to one pc. the error that displays is "the address of the site is not valid. check the address and try again." now, i figured this was due to problems with the spaces in is not valid the path to the file, but now i am not so sure, as from other computers the error message does not come up! any ideas? thanks in advance 0 Advertisements #2 Czar_1978 Posted 18 November 2005 - 07:43 AM Czar_1978 New Member Member 2 posts First what version of Office and Adobe do you have on your system. If you have created the Excel doc in earlier versions and then upgrade to Office 2003 with version 7.0.0 or earlier of Adobe you will most likely have some problems opening up PDF hyperlinks. Update to the newest version of Adobe if this is the case. Otherwise, I'd think recreating the hyperlinks could be another possible solution. 0 #3 hulud Posted 18 November 2005 - 08:49 AM hulud Member Topic Starter Member 268 posts i figured out that the problem was that he had the excel file saved in a folder on a network drive, and had the files that he was linking to on the same drive, but had mapped another drive directly to the folder and the problem seemed to happen when he opened the file from the second mapped drive, i think this was causing problems. when i told him to open from the original mapped drive (part of the login script for all network users, rather than just added himself) he has been good since then. i did google the error message and come up wtih this too -> http://support.micro...2509&sid=global -> which was helpful (although ultimately not applicable on

My hyperlinks are being changed when I hit save in excel. Eg a perfectly good hyperlink, which works well… \\wwleeds-srv\wwstandards\Technical_Guides\Part_L_information\CIBSE_guide_F_Energy_efficiency_in_buildings.pdf ...changes to an unusable string of nonsense on hitting save: ../../../../../wwstandards/Technical_Guides/Part_L_information/CIBSE_guide_F_Energy_efficiency_in_buildings.pdf I just don’t know why it changes at all when it saves, it puts all the back slashes to forward slashes, removes the server name and puts in a whole load of forward slashes. Clicking on the saved hyperlink brings up the error message: “The address of this site is not valid. Check the address and try again” I have tried inserting the hyperlink by right clicking on the cell, selecting hyperlink and then browsing to find the file on the server that I’m after, then testing it to see if it works, and it does until I hit save. I then tried fixing it by editing the hyperlink. This also works until I hit save. Please could you let me know how to solve this problem? I've checked the microsoft website for help and I think that this is suggesting that I do what I have already done ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/156893 ), if so it doesn’t work, if not please can you help me with plainer instructions? ( I don't think it works).
