5th, 2009, 05:27 PMHi, I have set up an Ubuntu intrepid server as a file read_fd_with_timeout: client 0.0.0.0 read error = connection reset by peer. server at my work, thru Samba. Clients have been successfully getpeername failed. error was transport endpoint is not connected windows 7 connecting for several months. They are Mac OSX, WinXP, Vista, and Ubuntu users. Yesterday the Vista getpeername failed. error was socket is not connected computer couldn't connect, and today no-one can connect. :( The server is available on the network - I can ssh into it from other machines samba getpeername failed transport endpoint is not connected and smbd is running: simon@sciproj-server:~$ ps -ef | grep smb root 4539 1 0 16:19 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D root 4572 4539 0 16:19 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D Here's the log: [2009/02/05 16:19:45, 0] smbd/server.c:main(1213) smbd version 3.2.3 started. are configured as DC's. I don't know about member servers, but DC file server are samba log level using SMB-over-NetBIOS-over-IP (NT4 style) - I don't think they can support pure SMB-over-TCP/IP. I had tried setting to 139 only- I think some XP and Win 7 clients make an initial connection to port 445 then get redirected. If I disabled Netbios on the XP clients, they can't connect to a samba DC. -----Original Message----- From: samba-bounces at lists.samba.org [mailto:samba-bounces https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1061013.html at lists.samba.org] On Behalf Of Andrew Masterson Sent: Thursday, March 10, 2011 1:56 PM To: Jack Bush; samba at lists.samba.org Subject: Re: [Samba] getpeername failed. You only need 445 in most modern worlds, unless you're a PDC from what I can tell. I stuck this in my smb.conf file: # restrict ports to avoid # "getpeername failed. Error was Transport endpoint is not connected" and # "Error writing 4 bytes to client. -1. (Transport endpoint is not connected)" # errors from port 139 legacy mode - PDC may need 139 open smb ports = 445 -=Andrew -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/options/samba Previous message: [Samba] getpeername failed. your log, that is because the Windows client attempting to connect to samba on ports 445 and 139. the XP Pro PC Client attempts https://bayuindra.wordpress.com/2010/09/30/samba-getpeername-failed-error-was-transport-endpoint-is-not-connected/ to initially communicate with the server over both ports 445 and 139 https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21356324/Samab-errors-getpeername-failed-Error-was-Transport-endpoint-is-not-connected-write-socket-data-write-failure-Error-Connection-reset-by-peer.html and that whichever port responds first is used for further communication. http://groups.google.com/group/linux.samba/msg/370a5eaded746ab2?pli=1 The workaround is either you disabled port 445 via iptables like the solution in here or simply by adding this line on your [global] stanza inside smb.conf smb ports = 139 Edit: Adding "smb is not ports = 139" may decrease your samba share performance. If you're ok with that error above filling up your log, then its not necessary to add smb ports in your smb.conf. You can leave both ports but put 139 first for both windows and samba to be happy🙂. smb ports = 139 445 Eugen Mitu December 10, 2011 at 2:34 pm Reply Leave a Reply Cancel reply Enter your comment here...
