I followed instructions that I found here and elsewhere and selected "keep organised" and "copy files" and then consolidated my library, but about a third of the way through it stopped saying a filename was too long. I have been poking around and found a few long files, but how do I rename them in itunes? And how can I be sure that I have fixed the right one(s)? And once done, can I be sure that itunes won't create filenames too long (assuming a long artist/name/album??) 07-10-2011, 11:50 AM #2 S2_Mac Veteran Lounger Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: About 3 feet in front of the monitor Posts: 4,878 permalink I have been poking around and found a few long files, but how do I rename them in itunes? media on your computer. ITunes serves as a comprehensive music library and media player. If you have music files scattered across different folders on your computer or other removable media, iTunes http://forums.ilounge.com/itunes-related-mac-pc-applications/270272-trying-consolidate-library-filename-too-long.html offers a way to consolidate these files. About Library Consolidation When you consolidate, iTunes organizes your music file library by bringing all the files into one central location on your computer. Newer versions of iTunes call this process "organization," while older versions called it "consolidation." You can launch consolidation by clicking the "File" menu and selecting "Library" and "Organize Library." When iTunes consolidates http://www.ehow.com/info_12210602_itunes-wont-consolidate.html music files, it makes a copy of any file not already in the iTunes default library folder on your computer. Because this process requires moving and creating new files, you may run into issues when attempting to consolidate. User Permissions When you attempt to consolidate your iTunes library, confirm that you are logged in to a Windows user account that has administrator permissions or at least permissions to create and move files. Windows user accounts exist to protect computers from users who accidentally install, remove or move files. Right-click the iTunes icon and select "Run as Administrator" to determine if lack of user permissions is the cause of your consolidation issue. Hard Drive Space When iTunes consolidates your library, it creates copies of music files, which takes up space on your computer's hard drive. Because of this, your hard drive must have enough open space to contain the new music files. To make room on your hard drive, uninstall programs that you don't use often, delete large programs or media files from your document folders and empty the recycle bin. Store extra files on removabl

Help needed 17 Dec 2012 #1 wagonface Windows 7 Professional 64bit 3 posts iTunes consolidate library fails: copy error 1303. Help needed I would be really grateful if anyone can help with the problem I am having consolidating my library. My itunes library is too large (120MB) for my Win7 laptop, so I bought a itunes library Synology DS212J NAS. I have created a new 'iTunes' folder on the NAS and mounted it on my laptop. Then I followed the official instructions on how to move my library: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449 Attempt 1: some files get copied over, but then iTunes error box says files could not be copied, error -1303 Attempt 2: some files get copied over, but then iTunes error box says files could not be copied, error -1303 Attempt 3: some files get copied over, then BSOD crash consolidate itunes library on my laptop All I could find is this website (http://www.error1303.com/) which says I need to give permissions to my 'program data' folder. I checked that last night it looks okay already. I can't give permissions to the new shared iTunes folder on the NAS. I haven't tried disabling the firewall and antivirus yet. I don't know what to do next. Can anyone help?
