I purchased a used MacBook Pro, late 2011 model. The person I purchased it from said he wiped the hard drive, but when I got home, it seems he did that, however his login was still there. So I did a disk utility, wiped the hard drive which checked out fine, got to the reinstall Yosemite page, but there is no hard drive icon, only the install Yosemite page. When I click continue I get this http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/166695/clean-install-of-yosemite-problem error, "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again." Click on Utilities –> Terminal When the terminal window opens, type date and hit enter. What you will notice is that the date listed will be wrong. That wrong date is what is causing the reinstall error. To correct the wrong date –> type date followed by MMDDHHMMYYYY (Month – Date – Hour – Minute – Year) Exit and begin a new install, the problem should now be solved. share|improve this answer answered Jan 10 '15 at 12:37 JamiePatt 3,1822929 My date is not wrong :(

In recovery mode I erased the main hard drive so I can have a clean install. Then I selected "Install OS X Maverics" and after asking mac os x my permission to "verify the installation with apple" I got this error: An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again. I restarted, and then it started the "Internet Recovery" mode, which now gives me the option to install OS X Mountain Lion instead of Mavericks, and gives me the same error every time. I've checked the date through the terminal, and it is correct, but I am not in "PDT", I'm in "IDT" time zone. mavericks error install share|improve this question edited Dec 29 '14 at 18:57 daniel Azuelos 5,0641657 asked Oct 2 '14 at 10:21 Shock E. 51115 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Only if you have a Recovery partition intact on the machine will it attempt to recover to the OS that was last installed, otherwise Internet Recovery will recover to the OS your machine shipped with - If you use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X, it installs the version of OS X that originally came with your computer. After installation is finished, use the Mac App Store to install related updates or later versions of OS X that you have previously purchased. Ref: http:
