recently got Out Of Memory (OOM) error. There are some simple tuning required in order to fix it. Below hack worked for me. Tuning Eclipse Performance and Avoiding OutOfMemory Exceptions Go to your Eclipse setup folder If you are running Eclipse on Mac OS X then Right click on eclipse.app icon Click on Show Package Contents Open eclipse.ini file Change below parameters -Xms512m -Xmx3000m (Hoping your developer box has >4GB of memory) Add below parameters -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m Also, if you are running Eclipse from command prompt, use below parameters: 123456 C:\Program Files\eclipse\eclipse.exe-vmargs-Xmx1800m-Xms512m-XX:PermSize=256m-XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:PermSize specifies the initial size that will be allocated during startup of the JVM. If necessary, the JVM will allocate up to -XX:MaxPermSize. This is what my eclipse.ini file looks like: eclipse.ini file 12345678910111213141516171819202122232425 -startup../../../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.0.v20140415-2008.jar--launcher.library../../../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.cocoa.macosx.x86_64_1.1.200.v20140603-1326-productorg.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product--launcher.defaultActionopenFile-showsplashorg.eclipse.platform--launcher.XXMaxPermSize256m--launcher.defaultActionopenFile--launcher.appendVmargs-vmargs-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.6-XstartOnFirstThread-Dor

While Eclipse 3.1's default memory size has been increased to 40M minimum heap and 512M maximum heap, it may not be sufficient . In earlier versions of Eclipse (pre 3.1) my JVM continually crashed when loading up Sakai projects. Changing my startup min max memory settings appears to have righted the good https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=61341742 ship Eclipse so I thought I would share my experience. To change Eclipse's default min and max memory size settings, edit the file eclipse.ini. Editing this file represents a change from earlier versions of Eclipse, where startup settings were stored in Info.plist. Indeed, Info.plist includes the warning note: Finding eclipse.ini is a wee bit tricky. To locate it, right-click on the Eclipse Application icon and select "Show Package Contents", then double-click on the "Contents" folder and then double-click on the "MacOS" folder, the home of eclipse.ini. You can then edit the settings as I did below setting the min and max memory settings according to your evaluation of what your system requires. You can also startup eclipse from the command line with appended -vmargs arguments but I'll leave it to others to outline that procedure. Eclipse Ganymede Version: 3.4.2 Build id: M20090211-1700 eclipse.ini location: eclipse/Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/eclipse.ini My changes (for the moment): -showsplash org.eclipse.platform -startup ../../../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.101.R34x_v20081125.jar --launcher.library ../../../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.carbon.macosx_1.0.101.R34x_v20080731 -vmargs -Xdock:icon=../Resources/Eclipse.icns -XstartOnF
OS X Leave a reply On Linux or Windows you can find the eclipse.ini file in the eclipse directory. If you now https://www.banym.de/eclipse/eclipse-configuration-files-on-mac-os-x run out of memory with some bigger projects you need to edit the eclipse.ini file to increase the max amount of memory for you eclipse java https://www.mkyong.com/eclipse/eclipse-java-lang-outofmemoryerror-java-heap-space/ process. 1. Open Terminal and go to eclipse directory. My eclipse is located in Application directory. #cd /Applications/eclipse/ 2. Go where eclipse.ini is located. I am mac os using Eclipse Ganymed so it looks like this: #cd Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/ 3. I use vi for changing the file: #vi eclipse.ini 4. Make your changes and safe it. Here is an example for the file: -showsplash org.eclipse.platform -startup ../../../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.101.R34x_v20080819.jar --launcher.library ../../../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.carbon.macosx_1.0.101.R34x_v20080731 -vmargs -Xdock:icon=../Resources/Eclipse.icns -XstartOnFirstThread -Xms128m -Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5 -Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.carbon.smallFonts Note: Of course mac os x you also can use Finder to navigate into the directory and you can use Textedit for doing the changes. To open the Eclipse.app file you have to do "right click" on the Eclipse symbol in your eclipse directory and select ‘show packagecontent'.
