Mac Os Type Unicode Characters
everyone,Please, take some time to read this. I recently purchased a PowerBook 667 DVI which came with OS mac os type accented characters 10.1 but no system disks.I wiped the drive clean using a custom made bootable OSX disk and attempted to start from scratch using an OS9 retail CD (9.2.1). This is

not a hardware specific disk. The machine gives me a "Type 11 error" message each time I try and boot to the CD. Firmware is up to date, OS9 drivers are installed. Resetting the PRAM, booting with extensions off even resetting the PMU did not help. The funny thing is that on this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25114, this machine is listed as compatible with protools 11 mac os OS 9.2.1 which apparently is not the case! I do not have OS X and I am not really interested in it. I presume that finding the original CDs that shipped with this computer is very difficult. Any thoughts are highly appreciated. Many thanks for taking the time to read this post. Welcome to the Forum.I dont know the 667 and I do think it will happily run 9.2.1.Type 11 is an unspecified hardware error - if you have anything at all connected to the Powerbook, please try again without it Otherwise why was it wiped with anything other than your OS9 retail CD (9.2.1)? Was that just to install 9 drivers, please?Exactly how does your "custom made bootable OSX disk" differ from a standar

What Os Does Mac Use
Posted by: kledo Date: January 26, 2011 08:02AM I have a trusty (to this point in time) Beige macintosh os 9 Powermac G3 running on OS 9.2.2. Since this Monday morning I get "Sorry, a system error occurred error type 11" at the exact same start-up point. After about a dozen https://discussions.apple.com/thread/128490?start=0&tstart=0 restarts it will become a smoothly working system. I replaced the PRAM battery with a tested fresh new one. The issue remains. There has been no new software installed on this old bird for at least 2 years--so I doubt it is anything but a hardware issue. Does anyone know what a type 11 error code would indicate? Thanks a http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1083283,1083319 bunch for any help. --Kledo Options: Reply• Quote Re: Who remembers OS 9 error codes? Posted by: deckeda Date: January 26, 2011 08:14AM Type 11 is probably the most common---it's a memory error caused by the OS's lack of protected memory. Edit: I wasn't aware this was actually a hardware issue? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/26/2011 08:16AM by deckeda. Options: Reply• Quote Re: Who remembers OS 9 error codes? System to explain why a System Crash happened. Most of the time, they are of little or no use to you. The reason is that the error is a description of the endstate of a system breakdown. If you are driving, late at http://members.tripod.com/thecomputerguy__/syserrors.htm night, in the rain, arguing with your passenger, and a deer runs in front of you http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?MacOsClassic - you swerve, go into the ditch and hit a tree. The error message would be "Hit a Tree". Not a useful guide to avoiding the problem in the future. However, there are some error messages that DO tell you useful things. Error Message: Error Type 41. Cause: the system "can't load the Finder." The Finder is damaged. Solution: reinstall the Finder mac os your System CD or Disk Tools disk. Troubleshooting Type 11 and Related System Errors Type 11 errors and Mac OS 7.6.1 Type 11 (and "FPU not installed") error messages should be sharply reduced in Mac OS 7.6.1. Here's why: Prior to Mac OS 7.6.1, "most crashes in native code previously were mapped to the 'miscellaneous fatal error' code which is 11. The software will now calculate the real error code and report the correct number." "Also, previously, a type 11 11 mac os error when MacsBug is not installed would cause a 'Sorry, a system error has occurred' dialog and force an immediate reboot. Now most of these cases will instead 'unexpectedly quit' the foreground application." It is probably still best to restart after this occurs, but you won't be required to do so anymore. For those of you not using 7.6.1 yet...Type 11 and "No FPU Installed" system errors Type 11 and "No FPU Installed" system errors have become surprisingly common for Power Mac users (especially after upgrading to System 7.5.1 or later), making it one of the most asked-about problems today. The ultimate cause of these errors is almost always bugs in application software. So you cannot really "fix" these errors yourself. Still, there are a number of quasi-fixes that can help eliminate or reduce the chances of getting these errors. In particular, here's a complete list of things to try: Restart. The error may not occur again any time soon. If the error occurs only or mainly with one application, and especially if you can reproduce it consistently, a bug in that program is the likely cause. Contact the vendor for compatibility information. One special note: Power Mac versions of Microsoft Office applications (Word 6 and Excel 5) can lead to Type 11 errors, most often when also using virtual memory and/or QuickDraw GX. To fix this, you should install the Office4.2x Update for Power M
