I was told that OS-X Tiger would not fit on the existing 10GB drive when combined with the existing OS-9 system (however, the existing Hard Drive's total contents only uses up only 1.95GB.)So....I will install the new RAM module and the larger Harddrive, then install the OS 9.0.4 from my original CD-ROMs... I'll put all the files onto the new drive... then run the OS 9.1 update, then run the firmware update, then follow with the 9.2.1, and the 9.2.2 updates... then do an archive and install with the OS-X Panther using those CD-ROMS..... If I start this tommorrow after FedEx delivers the new Drive and RAM, I should be up and running before August!! (kidding, I hope)I read tons of posts about Upgrading my Powerbook G3 Firewire and wasn't that clear about still being able to use older software and access old files if I did a "Full" install with the Panther CD-ROMs then follow with an OS 9.0.4 system later. I'd try a different brand of media, such as Verbatim. Also, choose Save as Disc Image instead of clicking the burn button. When the disc image is finished, choose it with the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window and burn the disc from it. Let us know if that works. I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon! The backup destination is a USB hard drive. The very first time I attempt a backup, I get the message "Can't save Snapshot in "01Monday", error -39 (unexpected end of mac os file). I've tested this with trying to backup 1 simple file, so I'm pretty sure it's not related to the 16 MB resource fork limitation. I've been using 4.3 with Mac OS 9.0 and a SCSI Jaz drive for years with no problem. Is this an OS 9.2/Retro 4.3 issue, or a backing up to a hard drive issue? To determine what type you are using, go to Configure > Backup Sets and configure your set - it will give the backup set type in the top left corner of the properties box. Make sure the drive has been formatted as Macintosh Extended. What happens if you backup to a file backup set on the local drive? Does the problem go away? Back to top #3 jstraub jstraub Occasional Forum Poster Members 3 posts Posted 14 September 2002 - 01:17 AM I am using a File backup set and the drive is formatted correctly. With each test, I create a new backup set, and do a Recycle backup, and set the criteria to include only 1 specific file. I've done the following tests with the same error -39 result: - Backup the local volume (V1) to an external drive - Backup the local volume (V1) to the local hard drive - Run Retrospect on a different Mac on the network (running OS 9.1), to backup volume V1 on the network to an external drive - Run Retrospect on a different Mac on the network (running OS 9.1), to backup volume V1 on the network to a different external drive So I've ruled out a Mac OS 9.2 conflict. Volume V1 has 5 GB of d

If on a network drive, try copying the files to your local hard drive before opening them. Also you may want to check the file size. I *think* error -39's usually point to corrupt files, but it would be strange for ALL your files to have become damaged just by moving them from one server to another. L.
