This discussion is locked s01705661 Level 1 (0 points) Q: Error Code -1309 when copying large file I'm trying to back up a large (about 5.5GB) video (.mkv) file on to my external hard drive. It copies completely but once it is finished I get a message saying "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error Code -1309)"I've searched for Error Code -1309 which always leads to Error Code -36, which sounds like a similar error but none of those solutions have solved the problem. The video works when run from the internal hard disk, so the file isn't corrupted.I can't cut the video into smaller pieces because I don't have video editing software that runs .mkvI have a MacBook (Late 2006) MA699xx/A with Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Cheers, MA699 (Late 2006), Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger Posted on Mar 31, 2010 8:26 AM I have this question too Close Q: Error Code -1309 when copying large file All replies Helpful answers by Limnos, Limnos Mar 31, 2010 9:05 AM in response to s01705661 Level 9 (54,611 points) Mac OS X Mar 31, 2010 9:05 AM in response to s01705661 Hard drive connection? From what I've read OS X 10.4 can only read from NTFS.If not does anyone know a good (preferably free) program for converting or resizing .MKV files? Thanks for your help so far... It seems that Fat 32 can only transfer up to 4 gb at once or per file. So heres my question, is there anyway around this? Can i split the file then put them together once they are on the drive? You can split files for the sake of storage, but they will need to be reconnected on a HFS+ volume to be used. Surely nobody would ever have a single file that big?? I try to transfer a .mov I created but, it quits half way giving me the Error code 1309. I've looked at other threads where people mac os error have had similar problems. It seems that the drive has to be formatted for Mac to transfer a file as big as mine (13.89GB). That's not going to work, unless WinXP can also read/copy from that kind of drive. Is it possible to get that file onto the drive without reformatting to a Mac file system? The drive is formatted as FAT-32. (I don't know why Mac won't write to NTFS. That is very annoying having to delete my partitions and reformat for a simple file transfer!) It's plugged into the USB 2.0 port on the front of the box. FireWire isn't an option with this drive. Any suggestions? Remember, I have to have WinXP compatibility. #1 msbae, May 25, 2006 bobw uix_expand uix_collapse The Late: SuperMacMod Joined: Mar 29, 2001 Messages: 8,831 Likes Received: 6 Probably a file size limitation with Fat32. I believe the maximum file size limit is 4 GB. #2 bobw, May 26, 2006 billbaloney uix_expand uix_collapse House pianist Joined: Oct 31, 2000 Messages: 509 Likes Received: 0 A quick search will indicate the problem very clearly, as Bob pointed out. #3 billbaloney, May 26, 2006 msbae uix_expand uix_collapse Registered Joined: May 25, 2006 Messages: 5 Likes Received: 0 I figured that out the hard way.
