Solution Overview:There can be several causes for a Status 800 (resource request failed) with NetBackup (tm) 6.0. This error indicates that the NetBackup Policy Execution Manager (nbpem) was unable to get the required resources from the Enterprise Media Manager (EMM) processes. Typically, the Status 800 will indicate a failure to get an available drive for the backup, or the drive requested is the wrong density, or a storage unit is disabled. This error does not typically refer to system resources such as disk or memory, it refers to resources managed by the EMM server. Not every resource request will fail with a Status 800. Here are some other situations that will fail with different error codes: A request for a storage unit that no longer exists will generate a Status 219. A request for a drive that no longer exists will generate a Status 213.A request for media of the wrong density, a request made when no media is available, will generate a Status 96. · These situations will require different troubleshooting than a Status 800. Troubleshooting:Verify the drives in the required storage unit are in an "UP" status. If the drives are "DOWN" this can cause the backups to fail with a Status 800. The follow

If you offer suggestions of tools to run please use full paths so I can find them. After taking over this backup situation I've found that nothing has run for about a month, and now all of our attempts are finishing with status 800 "resource request failed". The detailed status says: --- "Error nbjm (pid=900) NBU status: 800, EMM status: No drives are available resource request failed (800) --- I've done lots of searches for this seemingly generic problem but nothing has helped. I've deleted and re-added the drives and robot and it sees everything fine and adds them back with no issues, but it hasn't helped. The only thing we can think that could be causing a problem is related to the changing of domain names that I will outline below. This installation was originally called backups.OLDDOMAIN.C

We recived this one night last week, but after a reboot of the backup server all was well. Today I tried deleteing and re-adding the tape drives and again all is well. Can anyone provide any insight into what may be going on? The environment has been rock solid for a number of months before this. The backup server is Windows 2003 R2 SP2, the clients are a mix of Windows, Linux & NDMP, all failed in the same way. We are running NetBackup 6.5.3.1. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Guest Error code 800 on backups at the weekend David Check your fabric as it sounds like the OS lost communication with the Tape Library. Seen this 800 last night as well. Cisco logs shows a disruption and the OS shows the library went walk abouts. Scan for hardware and restart of services cured it for me.
