Solution Overview: When https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH50318 accessing Media or Devices in NetBackup Administration Console, the message "network protocol error (39)" is returned. In addition, the "network protocol error (39)" error was usually followed by a second error message, "Unable to connect to the EMM server (77)"Troubleshooting: If the NetBackup Java GUI is installed or can be installed, attempts to use this interface generate a status 503. See the Related Documents section for more information on this error message and how to resolve it. Log Files: N/A Resolution: The NetBackup Client Service was being started by an account other than the local system account. The NetBackup Client Service must be started an account which has the following permissions: - Act as part of the operating system - Replace a process level token - Logon as a service - Create a token object Change the permissions for the account starting the NetBackup Client Service and restart the service.
