Error Message Unable to open robotic path. Solution Overview:When attempting to inventory a robot, the following error is generated: "Robot inventory failed: Unable to open robotic path (201)."Troubleshooting:This error can occur for various reasons including: The library door is open. The library is offline, or performing a scan (scans often occur when upon closing of the door). The library is not in SCSI mode.Conflicting software (like robtest) is running and has locked the SCSI path. The SCSI path to the library has changed and Veritas NetBackup (tm) does not know about it. Log Files: N/AResolution:This problem can be resolved or diagnosed with the following steps:1. Verify the library door is closed and locked.2. Verify the library is online, according to the Robot's LCD display or web interface.3. If applicable to the library, verify the library is in SCSI mode and ready to accept commands from a SCSI interface, as opposed to the LCD interface.4. Run the following command on the robot control host. This is the machine that the robotic arm is physically attached to, that is listed as the Robot Control Host in NetBackup:

If the server reboots for whatever reason - it appears Netbackup loses the path to the Robot. The OS itself appears to be fine - the Robot, netbackup error unable tape drives and scsi adapters all appear in Device Manager. When I run "Configure Storage Devices" in Netbackup - it recognizes the tape drives (as stand-alone) but not the Robot itself. If I go into Device Manager and blow away the tape drives and Robot and reboot - Netbackup will then see the robot when I run "Configure Storage Devices". I assume this is related to the SCSI path changing and Netbackup not being able to handle it. If I run "tpconfig - l" it reports 6 tape drives with a status of "up" and it reports the tape library with a status of "-". Is there a work around for this - or any way to configure it so that the SCSI path does not change? 0 0 09/22/13--06:05: Virtual Tape Library Robot not detected by Netbackup Contact us about this article I need a solution Need help. Background: We manage a Netbackup Master server which has several media servers. The media servers are at different locations and backup to a Virtual tape Library and then duplicate to a standalone tape drive. Problem: This was working fine. One day, on one media server, backup failed with job status 196 - client backup was not attempted because backup window closed. Upon checking the Detailed status - Robotic library is down on server. However, the drives are up when you check the Drives tab in the Activity monitor. Under Devices > Robots > The robotic path column says "missi
