Solution For NetBackup 7.1, a fix for this issue is included in the externally available EEB (Emergency Engineering Binary) bundle available in TECH156114 (linked below). There are two possible workarounds: 1. Copy the data to a local NTFS volume and backup the data from there. 2. Disable NTIO on the Windows client - this will force NetBackup to use Microsoft's API named BackupRead To disable NTIO (which is enabled by default), a registry key and value must be created as follows: 1. Run regedit 2. Create the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\VERITAS\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config\NTIO 3. Under this key, create a DWORD value named "UseNTIO" 4. Give this a value of "0". A value of 0 disables NTIO NOTE: NetBackup 7.5 will create the UseNTIO registry key (set to '0') by default during installation on Windows, thereby disabling the use of NTIO by default.Applies To This error is most commonly seen when a windows client is backing up data on a non NTFS file-system. The data may contain alternate data streams. Terms of use for this information are found in Legal Notices.

csrs-exchange ! csrs ! local [Download message RAW] Hi David, Thanks for the reply. I just tested this setting, and it didn't seem to make any difference. http://marc.info/?l=veritas-bu&m=108628020826592 Here are the steps I took: Compression is turned ON in the https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/969302 volume properties in the Netware Box I set the NW_Uncompress = yes in the NetBackup Netware Client, and restarted the client. Next, I backed up some test data (about 350MB worth) to a disk volume. Then, I setup a restore to my local XP workstation (which I normally do restores netbackup error to without issues). When the restore started, here are the messages: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---- 08:51:11 (13713.001) INF - Beginning restore from server nbu.local to client angus, file C:\diskstu\test-clt_1086277714_C1_F1. 08:51:11 (13713.001) TAR - TEMP:\SYS\BILL\ 08:51:11 (13713.001) MNR - The file was renamed to the following: 08:51:11 (13713.001) UTF - C:\temp\BILL\ 08:51:11 (13713.001) WRN - error writing file: C:\temp\BILL\ (err=WIN32 13: The data is invalid. netbackup error win32 ) 08:51:11 (13713.001) WRN - error writing byte: 0 08:51:11 (13713.001) WRN - wanted buffer size: 160 08:51:11 (13713.001) TAR - TEMP:\SYS\BILL\BILL.TXT 08:51:11 (13713.001) MNR - The file was renamed to the following: 08:51:11 (13713.001) UTF - C:\temp\BILL\BILL.TXT 08:51:11 (13713.001) WRN - error writing file: C:\temp\BILL\BILL.TXT (err=WIN32 13: The data is invalid. ) 08:51:11 (13713.001) WRN - error writing byte: 0 08:51:11 (13713.001) WRN - wanted buffer size: 64000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---- It's still giving the "WIN32 13: The data is invalid." Are you sure there was nothing else? I am running Windows XP on my workstation, perhaps there is something there? Also, we have Netware 5.1...was it 5.1 that you were working with? In case you are wondering, this is a default install of NBU on the Netware client, and we've not changed any buffer settings on the master server or anywhere else. All other types of restores work, as do restores from Netware to Linux.
