Each time I attempt an install I received an "[Errno 5] Input/output error", followed by the following message before the installer exits: "The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk: [Errno 5] Input/output error This is often http://askubuntu.com/questions/501505/ubuntu-14-04-errno-5-input-output-error-during-installation due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment." In order to attempt to remedy this I have so far tried installing Ubuntu to two different hard disks, one of which is brand new, and each time I have received the same error "Errno 5" message. I have also tried installing from 3 different USB sticks using torrent and Ubuntu site iso images burned using both Unetbootin and Startup Disk Creator. Again, these measures have proved fruitless. The installation process varies depending of the iso I use, with the Ubuntu download page iso exiting at an earlier stage compared to the torrented iso. The later torrent iso returns an error and exits when I am prompted for my name, computer's ID and password. I've never experienced anything like this when installing previous versions of Ubuntu. I'm absolutely stumped! Does anyone have any more ideas? usb system-installation iso usb-installation share|improve this question asked Jul 23 '14 at 10:50 andybot 16114 I tried the 14.04.1 update yesterday. I'm st
Fedora 17, so I installed windows 7 ultimate to a bootable usb drive... sadly there's more to it than this. I'm trying to install unetbootin http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-284244.html for fedora17... cannot find the download file. I mean... why is it so http://www.seeedstudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=6826 difficult to put the packages on the website in an easy to find place? Let me know if you find it here... lol http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ (fedora packages). Click that, takes you to another sourceforge site, but from there... goodluck finding the dl. If you do... let me know where it is. I've tried output error other installs, but for some odd reason they keep failing... I'm just soo frusterated right now. cbankord19th September 2012, 01:42 AMDisk error: [Errno 5] Input/output error: '/var/cache/yum/x86_64/17/rpmfusion-free/mirrorlist.txt' getting that error when I'm trying to install from here. http://pkgs.org/fedora-17/fedora-updates-x86_64/unetbootin-0-11.577bzr.fc17.x86_64.rpm/download/ ---------- Post added at 12:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:42 AM ---------- Disk error: [Errno 5] Input/output error: '/var/cache/yum/x86_64/17/rpmfusion-free/mirrorlist.txt' getting that error when I'm errno 5 input trying to install from other sites. smr5419th September 2012, 01:45 AMHave you tried yum search unetbootin? I believe it's in the repos. Anyway, if one follows the links they get http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//packages/unetbootin/0/11.577bzr.fc17/i686/unetbootin-0-11.577bzr.fc17.i686.rpm for the i686 rpm and http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//packages/unetbootin/0/11.577bzr.fc17/x86_64/unetbootin-0-11.577bzr.fc17.x86_64.rpm for the x86_64 one. However, I do believe you can install it with yum, without having to follow the links. I seem to remember unetbootin's basic binary failing on Fedora for me as well, and having to use the somewhat older yum version. I don't think I tracked it down, think I just gave up and used yum as I was in a hurry, and all I needed was a bootable Ubuntu USB, and unetbootin is probably best for that. Lately, many distros seem to be changing to an iso that will be a hybrid iso/USB, that can be written to a USB stick with dd Note that you probably have to install p7zip and p7zip-plugins as well as mtools. cbankord19th September 2012, 02:05 AMDisk error: [Errno 5] Input/output error: '/var/cache/yum/x86_64/17/rpmfusion-free/mirrorlist.txt' keep getting this when I'm trying to open the files.
