However, one of my previous partitions http://askubuntu.com/questions/723212/error-creating-directory-input-output-error-in-lubuntu-and-in-ubuntu is resistant to file changes (create files, folders, rename, deletion, copy). The massage Error creating directory: Input/output error pops out during the creation process. But the other two partitions are working well. I don't know what is the matter about this partition. Could you please help me with this? Edit When I changed my system into Ubuntu, the same problem also appeared. There are some screenshots during the process of Creation, Deletion and Rename. Edit 2 Another strange thing is that although the error pops out, the deleted files do disappear, but I can never delete the file enclosing folder, it says that it's not an empty folder. Here is the output with "mount" zcx@zcx-X101H:~$ mount /dev/sda1 on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remount-ro) proc on /proc type proc (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev) sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev) none on /sys/fs/cgroup type tmpfs (rw) none on /sys/fs/fuse/connections type fusectl (rw) none on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw) none on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw) udev on /dev type devtmpfs (rw,mode=0755) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=0620) tmpfs on /run type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,size=10%,mode=0755) none on /run/lock type

On standby: auto umount NFS-share via system-sleep-hook with systemd. This works flawlessly some hours or even days. But output error after some time, the following happens:1. mount nfs-share: no error message2a. trying to access that folder via filemanager, e.g. thunar: folder seems to be empty (it isn't on server!), but the correct freesize of the NFS-share on server is displayed in the statusbar.2b. trying input output error to access that folder via commandline: $ ls ls: reading directory .: Input/output errorThe very same worked just a few hours before, I haven't changed anything meanwhile. Join Date Mar 2007 Posts 6 I/O Error Creating Folder / fscl UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY I went to create a new folder today and I got the following error: Error creating new folder. Error "i/O error" creating new folder. If I move up a level in the directory structure I can create a folder with no error. I know I created some new folders like this one just a few days ago with no error. I have made no system changes. If I try to create from the command prompt I get "Input/Output Error". Strange but I can create a new file in the folder but not a new folder. I forced fsck and get the following Error reading block 8847363 (Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read) while doing inode scan. /dev/sda1: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY I am now in over my head, what do I need to do (step by step please) to resolve this? Is it fixable or is the drive itself failing? Last edited by tim_m; 12-30-2007 at 03:54 PM.
