Everything has been going fine and I have not made any changes for a while. However, I have just noticed that Webalizer is no longer producing reports properly (they seem garbled) and now I cannot even copy files via FTP o

I then formatted the drive via a windows machine into NTFS format, then rebooted in Ubuntu and went to copy everything back onto the drive. Before I did anything I did a recursive chmod to make sure it didn't run into any problems: Code: sudo chmod -R 777 * Then I went to copy it all back. Code: sudo cp * ~/Desktop/EXTERNAL And it copies for a bit, then I get a ******** of fail: Code: cp: cannot create directory `/home/syndacate/Desktop/EXTERNAL/backup 3a': Input/output error cp: cannot create directory `/home/syndacate/Desktop/EXTERNAL/batch3': Input/output error cp: cannot create directory `/home/syndacate/Desktop/EXTERNAL/bcpc cars': Input/output error cp: cannot create directory `/home/syndacate/Desktop/EXTERNAL/BJPrinter': Input/output error `~BLANK.ZIP' -> `/home/syndacate/Desktop/EXTERNAL/~BLANK.ZIP' cp: cannot create regular file `/home/syndacate/Desktop/EXTERNAL/~BLANK.ZIP': Input/output error `BOB.jpg' -> `/home/syndacate/Desktop/EXTERNAL/BOB.jpg' And it just goes on and on and fails at every single file until it gets to the end. I need this drive operational tomorrow - I didn't expect Ubuntu to give me any ******** - appears I was most definitely wrong. In a jam, whatever is the most stable will fail. I've never seen anything

On standby: auto umount https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2220445?tstart=0 NFS-share via system-sleep-hook with systemd. This works flawlessly some hours or even days. But after some time, the following happens:1. mount nfs-share: no error message2a. trying to access that folder via filemanager, e.g. thunar: folder seems to be empty (it isn't on server!), but the correct freesize of the NFS-share on output error server is displayed in the statusbar.2b. trying to access that folder via commandline: $ ls ls: reading directory .: Input/output errorThe very same worked just a few hours before, I haven't changed anything meanwhile. Apart from standby (--> auto umount NFS-share) and resume (manual mount NFS-share) on the clients which worked before, too.Any idea what's going wrong?additional info:server: /etc/exports _______________________ /srv/nfs/myshare 192.168.2.0/24(rw,all_squash,anonuid=33,anongid=33,no_subtree_check)(yes, input output error the mapping is needed and right.)clients:/etc/fstab _______________________ servername:/srv/nfs/myshare /home/carl/nfs nfs4 noauto,soft,user,_netdev,timeo=14,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 0 0/usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/umount-nfs _______________________ #!/bin/sh case $1 in pre) umount -f /home/carl/nfs ;; esac Last edited by Carl Karl (2014-09-21 17:07:47) Offline #2 2014-09-16 14:15:27 nomorewindows Member Registered: 2010-04-03 Posts: 3,015 Re: [solved] NFS: "ls: reading directory .: Input/output error" after time Somehow your nfs mounts have gone stale. You'd need to remount them or restart nfs related services. Dmesg or syslog output may help. I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...Look ma, no mouse. This would prevent your mkdir command from working, even with sudo.Try these commands:cd /ls -l -d homeOn my system I see this:dr-xr-xr-x 3 root wheel 2 Nov 2 09:26 homeThe hyphens appear where the "w" for write permission would be.Is there a reason you feel you need to create a file in /home? /home auto_home -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
in /etc/auto_master and restart the computer. Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by rhimbo, rhimbo Nov 3, 2009 8:29 AM in response to V.K. Level 1 (5 points) Nov 3
