Here's what I've tried so far: Code: alex@griever:~$ dd if=/dev/cdrom of=~/disc1.iso dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error 48+0 records in 48+0 records out 24576 bytes (25 kB) copied, 0.00641352 s, 3.8 MB/s alex@griever:~$ dd if=/dev/scd0 of=cd.iso dd: reading `/dev/scd0': Input/output error 48+0 records in 48+0 records out 24576 bytes (25 kB) copied, 0.00656128 s, 3.7 MB/s alex@griever:~$ As you can see I've tried both /dev/cdrom and /dev/scd0 and didn't really get very far. Could someone help tell me what I'm doing wrong? help on how to create ISO images of these. Any recommendations or suggestions on a Software package? If not, how about command line instructions? adrianx8th August 2008, 10:24 http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-196341.html PMIt's simple on the command line... Put the CD in you CD/DVD drive https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=114032 and do the following: dd if=/dev/cdrom of=Fedora.isoNote: You could use something more descriptive than Fedora.iso metaylor8th August 2008, 10:47 PMThanks I will try it. By the way, will the CD be bootable? metaylor8th August 2008, 11:02 PMTried but got the following error [root@localhost ~]# dd if=/dev/cdrom of=f9-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error 0+0 output error records in 0+0 records out 0 bytes (0 B) copied, 0.00318441 s, 0.0 kB/s [root@localhost ~]# There is also an empty file in /root named f9-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 adrianx8th August 2008, 11:10 PMHi You don't have to be root to run that command. What happens when you run:dd if=/dev/sr0 of=f9-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686.isoIt looks like you didn't use the .iso extension. varinder8th August 2008, 11:11 PMif u want a bootable input output error CD or called Rescue cd the command is #cdrecord dev=/dev/hdc boot.iso please first move to the directory where the boot.iso file exists please note. /dev/hdc is a device name for cdrom hope it will help metaylor8th August 2008, 11:27 PMJust happened to be root. No change after - see below [root@localhost ~]# dd if=/dev/sr0 of=f9-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686.iso dd: reading `/dev/sr0': Input/output error 0+0 records in 0+0 records out 0 bytes (0 B) copied, 0.00308573 s, 0.0 kB/s [root@localhost ~]# [root@localhost ~]# adrianx9th August 2008, 12:36 AMThat's strange. I've just tested it with a CD and a DVD and everything worked perfectly. You could try K3b (that's what I normally use). It allows you to select "Only create image" when you copy a CD or DVD. That will create an .iso image of the DVD/CD for you.# yum install k3b If you don't want to use KDE apps, there are other options for Gnome, but I haven't tried any of them yet. Edit:The .iso images are bootable, that is if the original CD/DVD is bootable. An .iso image is a raw dump. stoat9th August 2008, 01:28 AMHello everybody, I have made ISO files with the dd method

Suppose your DVD drive is /dev/sr0, then you should execute something like dd if=/dev/sr0 of=dvd-image.iso, where dvd-image.iso - name of image file (note that it will be about 4,5 GB large) . If it fails immediately, then looks like disc is badly corrupted. If not, then wait till command completes, and try to mount this image with mount -t udf dvd-image.iso /mnt (/mnt can be replaced with other mountpoint). Sometimes image mounts better than source disc. Sometimes you get I/O error but everything seems fine and the file plays OK. Kosmonavt, it's a data DVD with video files in it, not a film DVD ; also, I can play the videos from the disc normally.
