Here's what I've tried so far: Code: alex@griever:~$ dd if=/dev/cdrom of=~/disc1.iso dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error 48+0 records in 48+0 records out 24576 bytes (25 kB) copied, 0.00641352 s, 3.8 MB/s alex@griever:~$ dd if=/dev/scd0 of=cd.iso dd: reading `/dev/scd0': Input/output error 48+0 records in 48+0 records out 24576 bytes (25 kB) copied, 0.00656128 s, 3.7 MB/s alex@griever:~$ As you can see I've tried both /dev/cdrom and /dev/scd0 and didn't really get very far. Could someone help tell me what I'm doing wrong? That I end up with two iso images that are not identical, namely the output.iso is missing 2048 bytes at the end. When I however mount the iso image or CD-R and compare the actual files on the mountpoint, both are identical. Is that expected behavior or is that an actually incorrect burn of the data? And if its expected, how can I verify that the burn process was successful? The reason why I ask in the first place is that it seems to be reproducible behavior, certain iso images come out 2048 bytes short, even on repeated burns, but all burned CD-Rs are under themselves identical. Also what is the reason behind the: dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error As it happens always, I assume it is normal, but what is the technical reason behind it? I assume CDs don't allow the device to detect the size directly, so dd reads till it encounters the end the hard way. Edit: User karol on superusers.com mentioned that both the size issue and the read error are the result of using -tao (default) in wodim instead of -dao mode. I coul
help on how to create ISO images of these. Any recommendations or suggestions on a Software package? If not, how about command line instructions? adrianx8th http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-196341.html August 2008, 10:24 PMIt's simple on the command line... No change after - see below [root@localhost ~]# dd if=/dev/sr0 of=f9-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686.iso dd: reading `/dev/sr0': Input/output error 0+0 records in 0+0 records out 0 bytes (0 B) copied, 0.00308573 s, 0.0 kB/s [root@localhost ~]# [root@localhost ~]# adrianx9th August 2008, 12:36 AMThat's strange. I've just tested it with a CD and a DVD and everything worked perfectly. You could try K3b (that's what I normally use). It allows you to select "Only create image" when you copy a CD or DVD. That will create an .iso image of the DVD/CD for you.# yum install k3b If you don't want to use KDE apps, there are other options for Gnome, but I haven't tried any of them yet. Edit:The .iso images are bootable, that is if the original CD/DVD is bootable. An .is
