The bad sectors will still be bad sectors, you'll still get garbage at times, but you can now convert the dvd to iPod. If you have Ubuntu, and wine installed, you can get the windows version at http://roadkil.net/download.php?File=unstopcp Adv Reply May 29th, 2008 #4 Commander_Bob View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Visit Homepage Gee! Vlc Could Not Read The File (input/output Error)
with Brasero I've read in some threads (process starts but always fails). Offline #2 2011-02-23 14:38:01 Kosmonavt Member Registered: 2010-02-15 Posts: 100 Re: vlc could not read the file (input/output error) mac Input/Output error copying files from CD/DVD Try to duplicate your dvd via dd. Suppose your DVD drive is /dev/sr0, then you should execute something like dd if=/dev/sr0 of=dvd-image.iso, where dvd-image.iso - name of image file (note that it https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=811688 will be about 4,5 GB large) . If it fails immediately, then looks like disc is badly corrupted. If not, then wait till command completes, and try to mount this image with mount -t udf dvd-image.iso /mnt (/mnt can be replaced with other mountpoint). Sometimes image mounts better than source disc. Sometimes https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=114032 you get I/O error but everything seems fine and the file plays OK. Offline #4 2011-02-24 10:27:52 Daerun Member Registered: 2011-02-07 Posts: 74 Re: Input/Output error copying files from CD/DVD The file gets partially copyed before the error message appears, with a size of like 40MB while every video in the disc is like 300MB. Kosmonavt, it's a data DVD with video files in it, not a film DVD ; also, I can play the videos from the disc normally. Haven't seen any for a long time. The method I described works (AFAIK) only for DVDs with data - one time it helped me to read a scratched DVD with some backups You really should try method with image. If it don't mount, unfortunately there are almost no free software that can fix filesystem. NB: these are LEGAL original Windows installation DVDs that I had successfully installed on older (now defunct laptops). It is very unlikely that both DVDs became corrupted/damaged. This has to do with the copying, not with the original media. Here is output: steve@mithril:/z$ cat /dev/sr0 > /z/windowsxp.iso cat: /dev/sr0: Input/output error steve@mithril:/z$ ll /z/windowsxp.iso -rw-rw-r-- 1 steve steve 652869632 Jul 6 13:11 /z/windowsxp.iso windows-7 linux dvd iso-image share|improve this question edited Aug 12 '15 at 1:45 G-Man 3,09391224 asked Jul 6 '13 at 20:17 javadba 6021934 I'm confused; your question title says CD, and you show a file that is 652M bytes, which is about right for a CD. I think maybe you're getting a complete, good copy, and a stupid, incorrect error message. What evidence do you have to contradict my theory? –G-Man Aug 12 '15 at 1:54 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted Try using dd. sudo dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/path/to/output/file.iso share|improve this answer answered Jul 6 '13 at 20:29 w4etwetewtwet 172110 That yields an immediate "dd: reading '/dev/sro': Input/Output error. But wait, i tried a second time and it appears to have worked. Will get back. –javadba Jul 6 '13 at 20:35 Should be sr0 not sro :D. If you did actually type sr0 then Are you sure sr0 is the device file for the CD? Did you use sudo? And have you unmounted the CD before trying this? –w4etwetewtwet J
