AT10 VM fails to start after power loss scmeis1 Apr 10, 2014 7:09 PM Hi, I have scoured every where http://askubuntu.com/questions/292336/errno-5-input-output-error-in-ubuntu-13-04 to find an answer. I took a power hit which caused my VM to no longer boot. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction before I have to rebuild this whole VM and restore from backup.I constantly https://communities.vmware.com/thread/475927?start=0&tstart=0 get this error:Failed to start the virtual machine.Module DiskEarly power on failed. Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/52dd88c2-e3031285-50ff-001b21a08b14/JediMUD/JediMUD.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. 5 (Input/output error)I have validated all my files are there. I just cannot find and repair the issue. Here is my log file from the VM.2014-04-11T01:41:56.771Z| vmx| I120: VMXAIOMGR: Using: simple=Generic unbuf=Generic2014-04-11T01:41:56.783Z| vmx| I120: WORKER: Creating new group with numThreads=1 (4)2014-04-11T01:41:56.783Z| vmx| I120: FTCpt: (0 unk) State transition 0 -> 12014-04-11T01:41:56.785Z| vmx| I120: WORKER: Creating new group with numThreads=1 (4)2014-04-11T01:41:56.813Z| vmx| I120: WORKER: Creating new group with numThreads=16 (4)2014-04-11T01:41:56.814Z| vthread-7| I120: VTHREAD start thread 7 "vthread-7" pid 412442014-04-11T01:41:56.814Z| Worker#0| I120: DISK: OPEN scsi0:0 '/vmfs/volumes/4f9c16b1-c193e021-96ea-5404a6382e9e/JediMUD/JediMUD_1.vmdk' persistent R[]2014-04-11T01:41:56.814Z| Worker#1| I120: DISK: OPEN scsi0:1 '/vmfs/volumes/52dd88c2-e3031285-50ff-001b21a08b14/JediMUD/JediMUD.vmdk' persistent R[]2014-04-11T01:41:56.868Z| Worker

Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description I didn't find the exact description here for the bug I noticed, though it was discussed on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=600126 very intense. I'v tried to install ubuntu with the Live CD for 8.04 and 8.04.1 (both i386) on my SATA2 drive and I always get the Message: ------- The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk: [Errno 5] Input/output error This particular error input output error is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment. I redownloaded the ISO several times, checked the MD5 right after the download and MD5'ed the burned CD (burned at 4x). Everything seemed to be allright, but this message always occured - around 69%-73%. ------- It seems to have no effect wether I choose EXT3, ReiserFS, create swap partition yes/no, formating the root partition on console or whatever. I managed to install Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty fawn) from an old Live CD - no Problem. So my HD must be allright too. As I dig around in forums, people seemed to solve this by chance (trying different CDR's etc.). I couldn't find a real solution for this. My system: Intel Core 2 Duo, MSI P31 Neo-F, 2GB RAM, XpertVision Radeon HD 2600XT, Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS.
