After creation it worked fine and i put some files in it, but the day after i get the following error: me@mymachine:/media/disk1$ ls -l foo ls: cannot access foo: Input/output error me@mymachine:/media/disk1$ ls -l ls: cannot access foo: Input/output error total 101 d????????? ? ? ? ? ? foo (+ a succesful listing of other files and directories) I get the Input/output error no matter what i try to do to the directory (rm, mv, cd, etc.), and no matter which privileges i have. I read some threads suggesting that it is a hardware problem. I tried running ntfsfix on the partition: me@mymachine:~$ sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda3 Mounting volume... OK Processing of $MFT and $MFTMirr completed successfully. NTFS volume version is 3.1. NTFS partition /dev/sda3 was processed successfully. I have also run the short and the long SMART test from the disk utility, resulting in the overall assessment: Disk is healthy. It would be nice to know how to recover the data in the directory, but i have backup so that part is not crucial. I could also reformat the whole drive to ext4, which I

Bug183755 - FTP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493716 dnd throws "file system input or output error" due to 2 refresh jobs Summary: FTP dnd throws "file system input or output error" due to 2 refresh jobs Status: RESOLVED WORKSFORME Product: Target output error Management Classification: Tools Component: RSE Version: 1.0.1 Hardware: All All Importance: P2 normal (vote) TargetMilestone: 2.0 Assigned To: David McKnight QA Contact: Martin Oberhuber URL: http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news... Description Martin Oberhuber 2007-04-24 06:48:12 EDT This bug has been reported and diagnosed on the newsgroup: http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.dsdp.tm/msg00129.html http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.dsdp.tm/msg00130.html The problem appears when dragging and dropping an FTP file. The file gets transferred correctly, but after the transfer the following error dialog is shown: "Operation Failed. file system input or outpur error" Having to click this away on every transer is very unfriendly. It looks like SystemDNDTransferRunnable fires an EVENT_REFRESH in its RefreshJob, which is handled by the SystemView and leads to starting another RefreshJob from there. These two RefreshJobs collide, causing the first one to be canceled. This eventually leads to the mentioned error message, because the FTPService.internalFetch() does handles the progressmonitor cancelation by returning null which is inadequate. The real problem, however, is the duplicate refresh jobs which should be eliminated. This may be a duplicate of other similar bugs. Dave please investigate if this has been resolved in RSE HEAD already, or it is still an issue. Comment 1 David McKnight 2007-04-24 10:56:17 EDT I took out the EVENT_REFRESH a while back so I think this problem is already resolved in the

Starting since a few days ago whenever I edit a file on a mounted FTP directory I get a "Input/output error" and the result is essentially that the file is deleted (0 bytes). This happens whenever I try to edit something in ~/.gvfs directly, e.g. using Geany or even nano. The only program that manages to save correctly so far has been gedit. I asked around and it seems that's because gedit doesn't use FUSE, but GIO. Also, so far I've only had this happen with FTP mounts, SFTP mounts on the other hand are still working like they're supposed to. I'm certainly wondering if this is FTP server specific, but I haven't yet verified if the behavior occurs with another FTP server. Coincidently it seems that the kernel on my system was recently upgraded (to 2.6.28.17.22), though I am not sure if this is related.
