Re: Input/Output Error reading VMware Tools Virtual CD dariusd Mar 31, 2013 6:15 PM (in response to mfelker) Hi Marty! That's not good...I've never used Mageia before, but I have it downloading now to see if I can reproduce that problem here.Could you please provide the vmware.log from a run where the guest OS failed to read the Tools disc? I'd like to see if there are any interesting https://communities.vmware.com/thread/441252?start=0&tstart=0 messages there, and also to make sure I configure my VM the same as yours. There might also be useful information in the guest's dmesg or system logs, too.Cheers,--Darius Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 3. Re: Input/Output Error reading VMware Tools Virtual CD dariusd Mar 31, 2013 8:04 PM (in response to mfelker) It works for me on my Debian 7 beta amd64 host running WS 9.0.2... I installed the guest OS from Mageia-3-beta4-dual-CD.iso, choosing Other Linux 2.6.x kernel 64-bit as the guest OS type. I think I bumped up the size of the virtual HDD but otherwise chose defaults throughout the New Virtual Machine Wizard and through the installation. I'm not sure how Mageia's "dual" media decides on the arch to install, but I ended up with x86_64.How does that screenshot compare with your VM's configuration there? Am I correct in understanding that the failure you're seeing would have occured at the "cp" command in my screenshot?Cheers,--Darius Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 4. Re: Input/Output Error reading VMware Tools Virtual CD mfelker Apr 1, 2013 2:11 PM (in response to dariusd) Thankyou Darius! ! I certainly will try both things and post. It takes me awhile to get to this stuff as like everybody else I have an online life away from VMware and I also do other other stuff with virtualization. VirtualBox and KVM/QEMU virt-manager for example. I should

Can you mount a data CD manually? Do "mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom" and see what you get. If you can't play an audio CD with any of your CD player apps then something else is going on, as playing audio CDs doesn't rely on the mount directive. When you say that Linux recognises the CD, how have you determined that? I'd suspect a hardware problem, except that you said you can boot from the CD Reply With Quote 09-09-2001,04:03 PM #3 s1nn View Profile View Forum Posts Registered User Join Date Jul 2001 Location Tuscon Posts 91 i cant mount a data cd nor will it read the audio cds but when i boot into freebsd the drive reads fine audio and data---when booting linux it list all the drives and the cdrom is listed when i use dmesg it shows during hte hardware listings I see said the blind carpetner as he picked up his hammer and saw Reply With Quote 09-09-2001,04:40 PM #4 Choozo View Profile View Forum Posts Visit Homepage Registered User Join D

I even threw some video DVDs at it to make sure it wasn't the disc. Code: [pickens@acer1 Videos]$ dd if=/dev/sr0 of=POTC.iso dd: reading `/dev/sr0': Input/output error 5088+0 records in 5088+0 records out 2605056 bytes (2.6 MB) copied, 1.67727 s, 1.6 MB/s [pickens@acer1 Videos]$ I am getting the same thing on my laptop running Mandriva, oddly enough. Two different drives, two different computers, two different distros and multiple DVDs. What could be the problem?? __________________ Desktop machine: Zotac MiniITX MB / Pentium Dual Core E2200 (Soon to be Core 2 Duo), 4GB RAM, 640GB SATA, nVidia integrated GPU.
