it on my Centos 6.6 box. I want to be very clear - this drive works 100% flawlessly on other machines (both windows and other linux flavors)During mount attempts, I'm http://askubuntu.com/questions/332263/something-went-wrong-with-my-external-hd-ubuntu-cant-mount-it getting Input/Output Errors. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here.I've got the following packages installed directly from EPEL:Code: Select all(1/2): ntfs-3g-2014.2.15-6.el6.x86_64.rpm | 258 kB 00:00

The Fedora20 box has the same RPMs installed.I have the Seagate Diagnostic tools installed on my Windows7 box and it passes every single diagnostic test.I have even zero'd the thing out, reformatted NTFS and still no luck. Any help is appreciated! Last edited by crock on 2014/11/21 12:16:09, edited 1 time in total. I had previously installed the ntfs fuse driver via rpmforge (naughty me) and I ended up having to remove it, disable rpmforge and install all the nfs stuff from elrepo - then it worked fine. I think the rpmforge fuse driver was "marked" as a later version than the

I am able to access the rest of the folders on the disk. I am getting Input/Output error as show in the attached Image. Also I run some sudo commands which I found in some of the fora, does this output help in anyway to narrow down the issue? How can I get to my data in that particular folder. io external-hdd share|improve this question edited Oct 3 '14 at 18:49 Anthon 47.6k1462125 asked Oct 3 '14 at 18:03 Anwer Sylesh 63 add a comment| 1 Answer reading directory . 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote This looks like a corruption on drive sdb. Before you try and repair that NTFS partition (probably best try natively under Windows) you can use ddrescue to make a copy of the drive, so you have something to retry in case the repair fails. You can also use smartctl to check if the drive has errors, but if this drive is connected via USB you might not be able to issue the commands to the drive. It might not be a good idea to continue using that driver after (and if) you recover the data. share|improve this answer answered Oct 3 '14 at 18:57 Anthon 47.6k1462125 My laptop doesn't have enough space to use the ddrescue command, which I guess take all the 2TB image file when i execute right? –Anwer Sylesh Oct 5 '14 at 8:46 @AnwerSylesh Yes, or at least the size of the partition, not necessarily the whole drive –Anthon Oct 5 '14 at 9:27 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. However, from the commmand propmpt (DOS mode in Widows XP) the dir commmand worlks listing files in the root subdirectooty as well as folders and provides the correct number of bytes left free on the drive )about 60 gigabytes. I have tried chkdsk on the drive but it cannot access the drive.Without any success I tried to recover data using select all copy and paste to a new external drive as well as xcopy from one drive to the other from the DOS c: prompt mode and also tried my computer backup program. I was only ablle to backup 100K of data before the backup was aborted. Are the remainder of the drives's contents salvageable? (The predominant error message given is an I/O (input/output) device error). This is a new development. Until then the external drive worked fine.
