Lvs Input Output Error
Join Date: Mar 2011 Last Activity: 16 September 2016, 1:38 PM EDT Posts: 404 Thanks: 39 Thanked 4 Times in 4 Posts pvcreate not working I have few new EMC disks assigned from Stroage. I can pvcreate small disks (8.7GB), but bigger disks (71GB) are giving problem. -f also doesn't help. PHP Code: (1/1000th of standard size). Omitting this all seems running fine. Im not a developer of this, but i could imagine, that based on this tiny size the metadata is running out http://www.unix.com/red-hat/202355-pvcreate-not-working.html of space. Setting this to at least 64kib seems running fine. I think, smaller than 64kib doesnt make sense, because this is the smallest reading size of most harddisks. Please can you advise on which https://www.redhat.com/archives/linux-lvm/2014-February/msg00002.html release of LVM2 (if any) fixes this issue. Initially tested using SL6.4, now testing with SL6.5. I have used both LiveDVD and basic "Minimal Desktop" Installations on the target computer and inside a VirtualBox Virtual Machine. I am preparing to install SL6.5 on a small system with 3x750GB Disks. As a pre-requisite, I wish to testing the performance of the disks using different chunk/block sizes using LVM2 RAID5. It is a preference to use LVM2 RAID5 rather than mdraid and LVM2 to reduce the complexity of setting up and managing the system. However I am experiencing a problem when creating the Logical Volume. This issue occurs with both SL6.4 and SL6.5: /dev/vg_system1/lv_system1: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error /dev/vg_system1/lv_system1: write failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error There was one additional issue with SL6.4 which also appears to be partially resolved in SL6.5. Certain commands function without an issue, however once the issue manifests, it appears in most or all commands: [root localhost ~]# pvscan -vd Wiping cache o com Subject: [linux-lvm] /dev/vg1/dir-1: read failed after 0 of 4096 at ... Date: Wed, 30 May 2012 13:10:38 +0300 Hi, I really messed https://www.redhat.com/archives/linux-lvm/2012-May/msg00056.html up my LVM settings. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 server and my updates were up-to-date. Here is the whole story: 1. I have got four (4) identical 320 GB hard https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/lvm-creation-deletion-issue.6853/ disks: "/dev/sda", "/dev/sdb", "/dev/sdc" and "/dev/sdd" and one (1) 1 TB "/dev/sde". 2. Each 320 GB disk is paritioned to 1 GB + 319 GB ("/dev/sdX1" and "/dev/sdX2") and output error 1 TB disk has only one 1 TB parition. 3. There is RAID-1 (/dev/md0) on the "/dev/sdX1" paritions and RAID-5 (/dev/md1) on the "/dev/sdX2" partions. 4. LVM volume group "vg1" was set at first only on /dev/md1. 5. On vg1 there was only logical volumes: "root", "dir-1" and "dir-2". 6. Later I attached hard disk /dev/sde and attached read failed after it to volume group "vg1" 7. I created logical volume drbd with command something like "lvcreate -L 800G -n drbd vg1 /dev/sde1" 8. I was setting DRBD device on logical volume "drbd". I made some changes to "filter" parameter in "/etc/lvm/lvm.conf". 9. I noticed that there "PV unknown device" and I accidentally removed it with command (I am not 100% sure of this) "vgreduce --removemissing vg1". If I remember correctly used switch "-f" too. :-( 10. Then I found out that system was acting strangely. If I remember correct it prompted something "Couldn't find device with uuid...". Then I realized how stupid I had been! 11. Then I followed instructions on "http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX116095": 11.1. I booted with installation disk to installation environment 11.2. I run: "vgdisplay --partial --verbose" 11.3.Then I run "pvcreate --restorefile /etc/lvm/backup/vg1 --uuid UUID /dev/sde1 -ff" 11.4. Then again: "vgdisplay --partial --verbose" 11.5. At last: "vgcfgrestore --file /etc/lvm/backup/vg1 vg1" 12. I removed volume group "drbd". Notice: device /dev/sde was attached all the time. 13. After this running commands: # pvs /dev/vg1/dir-1: read f titles only Posted by Member: Separate names with a comma. LVM creation / deletion issue Discussion in 'Proxmox VE 1.x: Installation and configuration' started by Fab, Aug 15, 2011. Fab New Member Joined: Aug 15, 2011 Messages: 12 Likes Received: 0 Hello, First of all, precision: I am newbie regarding Proxmox and not familiar with Linux. I was playing with the creation / deletion of LVM groups using the commands vgremove disk1 pvremove /dev/sdb or pvcreate /dev/sdb vgcreate disk1 /dev/sdb It worked without problem 2 weeks ago, but now each time I am using one of these commands I have the following error: /dev/dm-3: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error /dev/dm-3: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 876190040064: Input/output error /dev/dm-3: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 876190097408: Input/output error /dev/dm-3: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error /dev/dm-3: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 4096: Input/output error /dev/dm-3: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error The concerned machine has 5 extra disks and I get the error whatever is the disk. I did not find anything on the wiki. I could see some similar errors on the forum, but not exactly like my problem. I could somehow find thanks to Google such error can be caused by file system corruption or driver issue. If somebody experienced the same or has some ideas... #1 Fab, Aug 15, 2011 Fab New Member Joined: Aug 15, 2011 Messages: 12 Likes Received: 0 So, after different tries and restarts, the issue was solved.
