And ls reading directory . input/output error ubuntu I used to copy vdi files as a kind of backup. Previously I did this (copying vdi file and then copying it back) many times without any problem. But today I experienced this error VirtualBox VMs/win_7$ cp ../../Bkps/win_7.vdi . cp: error reading ‘../../Bkps/win_7.vdi’: Input/output error cp: failed to extend ‘./win_7.vdi’: Input/output error I googled for this a little but from the advices on similar problems I undersood nothing unfortunately. Could anyone suggest how to solve this, please? After creation it worked fine and i put some files in it, but the day after i get the following error: me@mymachine:/media/disk1$ ls -l foo ls: cannot access foo: Input/output error me@mymachine:/media/disk1$ ls -l ls: cannot access foo: Input/output error total 101 d????????? ? ? ? ? ? foo (+ a succesful listing of other files and directories) I get the Input/output error no matter what i try to do to the directory (rm, mv, cd, etc.), and no matter which privileges i have. I read some threads suggesting that it is a hardware problem. I tried running ntfsfix on the partition: me@mymachine:~$ sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda3 Mounting volume... OK Processing of $MFT and $MFTMirr completed successfully. NTFS volume version is 3.1. NTFS

I want to be very clear - this drive works 100% flawlessly on other machines (both windows and other linux flavors)During mount attempts, https://sourceforge.net/p/fuse/mailman/message/11633572/ I'm getting Input/Output Errors. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here.I've got the following packages installed directly from EPEL:Code: Select all(1/2): ntfs-3g-2014.2.15-6.el6.x86_64.rpm | 258 kB 00:00
(2/2): ntfsprogs-2014.2.15-6.el6.x86_64.rpm output error | 235 kB 00:00
I can use the following command to mount it (and it mounts successfully):Code: Select all$ sudo ntfs-3g /dev/sdd1 /mnt/usbI just cannot read or write anything to it.Code: Select all$ ls /mnt/usb
ls: reading directory .: Input/output errorI however *CAN* write to it on my Fedora20 and Windows7 boxes. Can anyone give me an idea as to what I'm doing wrong? I had previously installed the ntfs fuse driver via rpmforge (naughty me) and I ended up having to remove it, disable rpmforge and install all the nfs stuff from elrepo - then it worked fine. I think the rpmforge fuse driver was "marked" as a later version than the EPEL one, so yum installed that everytime until I disabled rpmforge. Exact same symptoms (I/O error). But if you're 100% sure you got it from EPEL, then tha's a different story. Run yum --enablerepo=epel-testing --noplugins update \*ntfs\* CentOS 5 dies in March 2017 - migrate soon!Full time Geek, part time moderator.
