The MD5001T is used to generate 1.8V (core voltage?). It was reasonably easy to fix: desolder bad caps and replace, desolder SOIC-8 IC and replace. Done.
What Does Panasonic Error Code U81 Mean
The only caveat: the PCB is a single-sided phenolic one, so no plated holes! The traces lift extreme easily, watch out! The device is very modular, which is good. Nevertheless I had to remove every single PCB, the DVD drive and the hard-disk to get access to the underside of the large circuit board. A few things surprised me: Apparently it is still cheaper to have a single-sided phenolic board and be forced to use a "wire-jumper-machine" than to just order an ordinary 2-sided circuit board. The large black connector that goes to the "brain" (HDD-controller, DVD-controller…) is unpolarized! Once the device is more or less assembled, there is no way to connect it wrong (no space), but during debugging… one could plug it in the other way. I came back from holiday the other day to find my machine displaying U81 and having not recorded a single item that I had set it for! http://blog.spitzenpfeil.org/wordpress/2015/10/19/error-u81-panasonic-dmr-ex75-repair/ Panasonic tech support just gave me the usual response - but I don't really want to send it away if its something simple. Why won't they just say what the error code actually means? Thanks in advance! Mine hasn't done it since - but then I haven't left the machine to itself without using it for longer than a day. MattL76 View Public Profile Find More Posts by MattL76 26-11-2006, 19:59

Category:Consumer Electronics Share this conversation panasonic dmr Expert: Louie replied6 years ago. Hi and welcome to JustAnswer,Initially, error code "U81" indicates a microprocessor issue or it fails to communicate with any one of the devices it controls/monitors. It is a hardware fault.Offhand, if have not been tried, power off, wait a minute or so and power on. It will perform a self diagnosis. Should the error code persist, perform an ATP re-execution by pressing CH UP & CH DOWN error code u81 simultaneously for 5 seconds.Should the above be not corrective, Options then are: consider a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair if and only if comfortable working with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM, a soldering iron/station and safe practices with electrically powered devices. Access to a Service Manual or at the very least, a schematic diagram would be a necessity;should you be uncomfortable with a DIY, perhaps your best bet would then be to consult with and/or seek the services of an authorized Service Center or a qualified professional;evaluate other options considering cost of repair, down time, cost of shipping, parts availability and comparable prices of newer/better models. If a DIY is being considered:Service Manual is available here;ensure that the back end PCB is seated correctly;ensure that the connectors and FCCs are seated correctly at the paired RAM & Digital PCB modules.Good luck and thank you for asking JustAnswer.Edited by Benimur on 5/13/2010 at 8:27 AM EST Louie and 7 other Consumer Electronics Specialists are ready to help you Ask your own question now Share this conversation Related Consumer Electronics Questions Question Date Submitted I have a JVC 30GB HDD Camcorder Everio which I purchased 10/23/2016 10/23/2016 Viet - Tech I dropped my kindle, and now the screen looks like an etch a 10/

Search for - error, code I used to be able to turn the unit on and then after waiting for a while, turn it on again but unable to do so this time so might give it a miss and throw the unit away. How can a company as big as Panasonic make a recorder with this common fault all the time especially when we get a lot of surges in WA. Very disappointing! Rosemarie June 2014 I've just been given one of these DVD recorders with the same error, U81 (UART error) which I've now fixed. The problem is caused by C1530 (100µF 25v) on the Main PCB. This blows (open circuit), causing IC1508 (FET dc-dc converter) to fail. It's a tiny SOP-8 SMD on the underside of the board. This IC supplies D1R8V from the 12v line to the STi5516 processor board. Replaced the cap with 100µF 50v and cut and replaced the IC (MD5001T) and all works fine now. You'll need to strip the whole box down to get to the parts, and be careful of static wrecking parts of the board. The story about wrecking the "Freeview Decoder Microprocessor" is frankly rubbish - unless it was wrecked by the engineer doing the repair. Cost? Ab
