The operating instructions say "U61: There was a power failure or the AC plug was disconnected while the unit was on. The unit is carrying out its recovery process. This process restores the unit to normal operation. The unit is not broken. Wait until the message disappears." I have the same message on mine and have had problems with TWO Panasonic DVD Recorders that I have purchased over the last year and a half. Please let me know: edited by ddp. Thanks! After going thru four phone transfers I finally reached a fellow who agreed that since I was only a couple of months over warranty, Panasonic will pay the UPS cost to return it
