My Location: UK South East A customer of mine, with a DMR-EX768EB, fifteen months old and bought through Argos. Apparently they started playing a disc, which stopped after about ten minutes. Machine switched off and gave the 'U88' message. They managed to eject the disc after powering down for ten minutes panasonic dvd but since then, no joy at getting the machine to start up. I do not have the machine here, this is all from the phone messages. All it does is make some HDD noises as it starts up, then goes straight back into standby, no time for menus to appear so no chance of using the remote for a factory reset. Is there a front button option for restoring it to shipping condition or does it panasonic dvd recorder have to go back to Panasonic ? Another site claims this model is already relegated to the back catalogues. Unlike me they never groan but always perform. My Location: Blackburn, Lancashire Seems to be a common problem a reset by powering down for 10 to 15 minutes may solve it according to this thread -http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=812525 The U88 is when the unit is in recovery mode but as it was switched of before completion the current state could be difficult to recover from -http://www.fixya.com/support/t2597791-panasonic_dmr_eh56_permanent_u88_error Topper, Jun 20, 2010 #2 Channel Hopper Suffering fools just so you don't have to Staff Member Joined: Jan 1, 2000 Messages: 20,035 Likes Received: 3,134 Trophy Points: 113 My Satellite Setup: A little less analogue, and a lot more crap. Still unsure how this might have caused the demise of the box though

Eastwood says: I bought this Panasonic DVR DMR ES-15 in 2006Had no problems at all....then as I went to take out a movie disc and put in one of my own discs with recorded stuff I wanted to erase I suddenly was hit with U88 and U61 errors!!!It would not play. It would not open and close correctly. Nothing could be done besides turning the unit on and then off.My first instinct is to search online and find fixes, other customers with the same issues and try to repair it myself before opening my wallet!I came across this advice:Yesterday, my DMR-ES15 started to malfunction, giving me the error U61.No matter how many times I tried to press Enter, and Power On, the machinekept re-booting with the error U61. I noticed that the drive was making some noises as if the Read head was not able to park properly. So I decided to open up the unit and find out why. I took out the 3 screws holding the DVD drive top in place. And then movedthe drive head mechanism back (pushed it towards the back of the unit).I then plugged the power in, turned it on, and amazingly there was no moreU61 error. I test the unit this morning again and everything seems to work properly again!------So I took off the two large side screws, 3 back screws, and 4 nearly impossible to remove screws from the very top of the disc drive and took our the black tray, pushed the optical part back carefully, kept playing around with stuff gently and resetting the b
