Ensure that the company file or backup is being opened or restored correctly. Ensure that the proper version of QuickBooks Desktop is being used to open or restore the company file (for example, if the file was created in Enterprise Solutions, it cannot be opened or restored in QuickBooks Premier or Pro - also, if the file was created in a later version of QuickBooks Desktop [like 2015], it cannot be opened or restored in an earlier version of QuickBooks https://community.intuit.com/articles/1020909-error-6150-1004-an-error-occurred-when-quickbooks-tried-to-create-open-or-use-the-company-file [like 2014] unless you are working with an Accountant's Copy).
