I'd share. The text of this error message was something to the effect of "cannot connect to database server," however, mine was a http://www.scotthaggard.com/2013/01/quickbooks-error-6123-0.html single user installation with the company file residing locally. I realize QuickBooks http://repair-corrupt-files.blogspot.com/2012/11/how-to-resolve-quickbooks-error-61230.html may use a database server to connect to even a local database, but the knowledge base article on Intuit's website for error -6123, 0 was aimed at situations that did not apply to me. I was not using the company file over the network, I was not in quickbooks error multi-user mode, nor was I restoring a backup. I went through a bunch of things, including the use of the QuickBooks File Doctor, which said my database was perfect. I disabled Windows firewall, and was using no other. I restored a backup of the company file using Windows Previous Versions. I checked QuickBooks services but found nothing that jumped out at quickbooks error 6123 me. I was stymied. I started thinking about how I had the system set up. The computer is joined to a domain, so I logged in as Domain Administrator, tested QuickBooks, and it worked. The user I have set up to use QuickBooks doesn't have local admin, and I'd rather avoid giving it to her if possible. So I started Googling and ended up finding another Intuit knowledge base article for "Configuring multi-user access requires Windows Admin rights". Even though I'm not in a multi-user scenario, I decided to see if the information was helpful anyway, and it turns out it was. Solution: For QuickBooks Pro 2008, there is a Windows user account called "QBDataServiceUser18" which I added to the local Administrators group. That did the trick and now my user can access QuickBooks without that pesky error anymore, and without admin rights! hard to understand. I too encountered a very strange error message few days back. I got really worried and called one of my friend to sort out my problem. My friend told me to search for this error on Internet and try the recommended solutions first. So I searched my problem and came to know about the various causes behind the occurrence of this error. This error may encounter if: The network connection between your computer and server is lost. Firewall settings is creating problem with QuickBooks file. QBW file is damaged. Multiple QuickBooks files are running. Now I will discuss all the solutions that I tried and what worked for me. First I downloaded QuickBooks File doctor tool to detect damage in my Quickbooks file. It didn't detect any error. Next I checked my network connection with the host computer and it was fine too. Third I fixed my network data file by following below steps: Right click the Windows Start button and click Explore. Open your Company file and right click the file with .nd extension. Now rename it with .ndold. Unfortunately the above solution also didn't solve my problem. One solution I found in forum was: Open Company file. Go to File-> Switch to Single User Mode. Again File >Utilities > Stop Hosting Multi-user access. File >Utilities > Host Multi-user access. File >Switch to Multi-User Mode. I even uninstalled and reinstalled my QuickBooks file but the error was still there. Frustrated, I called my friend again and told her about my situation. She then searched for some third party QuickBooks repair tools and came up with life savior Stellar Phoenix Recovery for QuickBooks. My QuickBooks file was damaged, that is why none of the above solution worked for me. Finally I recovered my data using Stellar Phoenix Recovery for Quickbooks.
