Discussion 20- delete partitions error wd in 'Computer Help' started by lakedude, Dec 5, 2012. lakedude Golden Member Joined: Mar 14, 2009 read element failure Messages: 1,621 Likes Received: 1 Got an old system that had a bad MB so I replaced the MB with a new one. The new quick test on drive did not complete one is newer so it needed a new CPU and DDR3 RAM as well. Got it all together and it works fine from live CD. Turns out DVD's don't work because the thing is so old it lacks a DVD player. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/296435-32-received-codes-0007-0225-drive-done Ordered and installed a DVD player. Finally got around to trying to make Windows XP work and now it looks like the HD is bad as well! GParted refused to copy the partition claiming too many errors. Ran a disk check in Windows and it completed without any notifications. After the disk check Gparted still refused to clone the partition claiming errors once again. Ran Ultimate Boot and Western Digital DLGDIAG 5.19 quick check and the drive passed however the full scan errors https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/dlgdiag-error-code-0225-arrrrgh.2287782/ out with code 0225. Now what? The drive is toast, right? #1 lakedude, Dec 5, 2012 Fardringle Diamond Member Joined: Oct 23, 2000 Messages: 8,004 Likes Received: 6 Western Digital's Diagnostic Error Codes list says that error 225 means the drive is bad and needs to be replaced. #2 Fardringle, Dec 6, 2012 lakedude Golden Member Joined: Mar 14, 2009 Messages: 1,621 Likes Received: 1 Fardringle said: ↑ Western Digital's Diagnostic Error Codes list says that error 225 means the drive is bad and needs to be replaced.Click to expand... Thanks. I kinda figured... I hope the owner can come up with a copy of Windows XP home. Finding a 40GB or larger HD won't be too much of a problem if we can find some an old copy of windows XP. #3 lakedude, Dec 6, 2012 (You must log in or sign up to post here.) I installed the WD Smartware software included with the Drive and did a Quick Format using WD Quick Formatter (also included). After that i https://community.wd.com/t/smart-error-help/8367 tested my drive using Diagnostics from WD Smartware. Quick SMART Status :: PASSEDQuick Drive Test :: FAILEDComplete Drive Test :: Did not run the test. So, i went through the WD FAQ and downloaded Windows Data Lifeguard Diagnostics and tested my WD Quck Test :: Failed with error code 07 (which means drive is damaged and needs replacement - went through error codes) So, status code as per directions i registered my WD for replacement - RMA. After generation of RMA, i came across WRITE ZEROS under Windows Data Lifeguard Diagnostics.I did a FULL ERASE using WRITE ZEROS (took about 4 and a half hours), did a WD Smart Format, checked for all the tests. Its all working fine now. WD SMARTWARE TESTS :: Quick SMART Status :: PASSEDQuick Drive Test delete partitions error :: PASSEDComplete Drive Test :: PASSED Windows Data Lifeguard Diagnostics TESTS :: Quick Test : PASSED So, what am i suppose to do, as i have already generated an RMA for replacement bcoz of SMART error (error code : 07 / 0007).Should i still go ahead and replace my WD?Also, what if after cancelling RMA, i get some error or fault in the later phase and i need to replace the drive. Will i be able to do that? oxter 2011-08-07 14:43:55 UTC #2 You can cancel the RMA, you should be able to replace it latter on, if you determent that the drive is faulty and need to be replaced. hlvadgama 2011-08-07 17:06:25 UTC #3 Thank you for the reply. But i feel i will have to replace my WD as i heard some clicking sounds while i was using it. Sorry but can anyone please let me know how can i Cancel my current RMA and Regenarate a new one. As my problem has changed from SMART error to something else. OR Can i just attach a new letter along with the courier package decribing the change in Fault. oxter 2011-08
