Getting Error 00000080
Contents |
Fox [MSNZ]June 5, 20083 0 0 0 I'd just finished upgrading my Config Mgr lab to SP1, and found that as soon as I'd restarted my machine, SMS_EXECUTIVE started to 43c5-0000-0080-0300-8007-000f fail about 30 seconds or so after starting. I didn't get a 43c5-0000-0080-0300-8007-0570 lot of information to know this was happening, apart from the usual "SMSexec has crashed, do you want xbox status code 43c5-0000 to send an error report". Putting on my troubleshooting hat, I had a look at the CrashDumps directory under the default logs directory. This is where a dump of various logs

and bits of the Config Mgr state get dropped should a component fail. The interesting log in this case was crash.log which is a summary of the failure, and the various thread states of each of the components. I had an error which looked like: EXCEPTION INFORMATION Time = 06/05/2008 15:21:29.358Service name = SMS_EXECUTIVEThread name = SMS_HIERARCHY_MANAGERExecutable = D:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration xbox status code 4451 Manager\bin\i386\smsexec.exeProcess ID = 3548 (0xddc)Thread ID = 4256 (0x10a0)Instruction address = 78141e3aException = c0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION)Description = "The thread tried to read from the virtual address 00000080 for which it does not have the appropriate access."Raised inside CService mutex = NoCService mutex description = "" The key message in this case is the description, which points to a virtual memory address (00000080). To find this, I searched the crash.log for that error, and found this: STACK TRACE FOR SMS_HIERARCHY_MANAGER THREAD 4256 (0x10a0) AT 06/05/2008 15:21:29.358 EAX: 00000080 CS: 001b EIP: 00000000 EFLAGS: 00010202EBX: 2ec8a0fe SS: 0023 ESP: 013df35cECX: 7ffffffe DS: 0023 EBP: ffffffffEDX: 00000073 ES: 0023ESI: 00000000 FS: 003bEDI: 00000080 GS: 0000 This seemed to indicate that the issue was happening in Hierarchy Manager. Originally the drive had no access at all, it was a continuous BSY state and did not show up in the BIOS. This is what the Terminal output looked like:Rst 0x40MRW: Disc Ctlr Initialization Completed.(P) SATA ResetSIM Error 1009RW Error 00000080Then below that, it had something to the effect, Hi Temp or exceeded maximum temperature, something like that. I should have done a screen cap, but I was pretty sure it was PCB related.I swapped the PCB and ROM, and the drive was able to be fully recognized, and become ready but it would time out on every sector.Back in Terminal I get the same thing still:Rst 0x40MRW: Disc Ctlr Initialization Completed.(P) SATA ResetSIM Error 1009RW Error 00000080But that's it, it just hangs there and doesn't go any further, and the temperature error is no longer present. Again, this drive is now recognized by every computer that it is connected to, and in DDI it gives you the full model and LBA count, but you just have no ability to read any sectors. Kind of like a translator issue on a WD.Any ideas on this? Please feel free to PM. There's not much information out there with this specific issue. Thanks.
