While i am seeing IIS window, the Default web site is in stop dep0001 unexpected error mode. when i am ready to start IIS. It shows "Unexpected error 0x8ffe2740 occurred" Finally, I discovered that its caused by Skype. It listens to port 80 for incoming call. Now, most of the time IIS starts before Skype starts. So IIS works but if you restart IIS or try to start IIS after Skype is started then you will get this error message. For this, I changed my Skype settings Skype File-> Options -> Connection Uncheck Use Port

Thanks. asp.net iis share|improve this question asked Sep 22 '12 at 15:19 user1622824 356 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote I had a similar problem and I solve it using a firewall not allowing skype to do anything else more than open the ports to talk or chat. Restart IIS after this or restart computer. Additionally you can check for other programs like teamViewer, that also try to use port 80. May be a little bit hard to check ports on windows xp, xampp has a program to check ports that is very handy for this kind of things. I hope this can be useful to your problem. share|improve this answer answered Sep 22 '12 at 15:34 Martin 887 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote accepted After restart my system, my problem was solved. share|improve this answer answered Sep 23 '12 at 3:26 user1622824 356 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. There are 2 possible solutions: 1. You can change your IIS settings to run in different port (say 81) For IIS 7, go to IIS Manager, select the website from the left tree view; then goto "Bindings..." from the right side "Actions" pane and edit the port number. 2. You can change your Skype settings Skype File-> Options -> Connection Uncheck Use Port 80 as an alternative for incoming connections. Restart default website. During the process, I installed IIS also. I ran my first php script (today script) and it worked fine. Today, when I started up the machine and checked the same script again, I just get a 404 error. I triec to run another simple script () and again nothing. I tried to open a basic html page (again from the wwwroot directory) and again nothing. I have stopped and started my 'World Wide Web Publishing' Service sucessfully on several occasions. Still nothing. I do notice however, that under the Internet Information Services -> Local Computer -> Web Sites -> Default Web Site - there is a red Error sign and it indicates the default web site is stopped. When I try to right click the Default Web Site and 'Start', I get a popup saying "Unexpected error 0x8ffe2740 occured" and it remains stopped. I have a hunch that my problem has something to do with this. Any comments or suggestions please? Mar 22
