She has a problem generating a PDF file from within Word. When she goes to save a document, there are options concerning the format in which http://wordribbon.tips.net/T011430_Problems_Saving_as_PDF.html the document can be saved. When she chooses "save as PDF," she gets an error message: "Export failed due to unexpected error." Several readers suggested that this isn't a Word problem, but instead is a problem with some Windows drivers. For them, the problem was fixed when they updated Windows as described in this Knowledge Base article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2639417 Note that nothing in the article says anything about generating PDF files. Instead, it appears that the update takes care of modifying the drivers responsible for creating the PDF files, and this modification fixes the problem exhibited in Word. If that doesn't work for some reason, you should try using an alternative method of creating your PDF file: Click the File tab. At the left side of the screen click Save & Send. (Don't click Save; look down further on the left side and make sure you actually click on the Save & Send option.) Word presents you with some more options. Click Create PDF/XPS Document. Word displays a single button at the right side of the dialog box. Click the Create PDF/XPS button. Word displays the Publish as PDF or XPS dialog box. This dialog box looks very similar to a traditional Open dialog box. Specify a

Playing around with the conversion options hasn't helped, although I was able to narrow-down the issue by printing a range of pages and finding "suspicious" content: in this case, it seems the export failed to be a complicated diagram built using Word Drawing Art [or whatever it's called?] which the PDF parser mustn't be able handle. We're also going to look at Office 2013 SP1, but I'm not sure it'll help. pdf microsoft-word-2013 drawing share|improve this question asked Mar 31 '14 at 5:35 PeterX 1,23031322 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote It was because you are using custom fonts, try CTRL+A and change all fonts to something like "Arial". If you had header and footer, make sure to change that font as well. Somehow the PDF converter not able to convert if the fonts was not default from Microsoft. share|improve this answer edited Apr 12 '14 at 14:09 Sami Laine 917411 answered Apr 12 '14 at 13:39 Aaron Ooi 212 This answer is very helpful, thanks very much. –cherhan Jun 30 '14 at 5:28 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote In my case it was due to an image in the document had become corrupt. We don't know how this image became corrupt (it was a large document that had been last edited a few years back), but any attempts to "save as PDF" gave the error. Removing the corrupt image allowed the file to be saved in PDF form
TagEditor displays one of the following error messages: 80005: Unexpected error when opening file using a plug-in filter (-2147418113): Unexpected error using plug-in file filter. File skipped! (This error message may also occur when attempting to clean the file.) Explanation This issue may occur if the document you are trying to open in TagEditor is not a native Word document but rather a document that has been converted by a third party tool. For example, the document may have been converted from PDF to a Word *.doc file. In general, SDL recommends only processing native Microsoft Word documents, not converted documents that have been produced by third-party tools. Resolution There are two workarounds to make the Word document a native Word document: Workaround 1 Select all the content of the file (press [Ctrl+A] to select all text). Right-click and select Copy to copy all of the text. Create and open a new document in Microsoft Word. Right-click in the new document and select Paste to paste all of the text into the new document. Select File > Save from the menu bar. The Save As dialog box is displayed. Select Word Document (*.doc) from the Save as type drop-down list. Open the new file in TagEditor. Workaround 2 Open the file in Micorsoft Word. Select File > Save As from the menu bar. The Save As dialog box is displayed. Select Rich text format (*.rtf) from the Save as type drop-down list. Close the document. Open the new *.rtf file again in Microsoft Word. Select File > Save from the menu bar. The Save As dialog box is displayed. Select Word Document (*.doc) from the Save as type drop-down list. Open the new file in TagEditor. These workarounds freshen up the document structure and help to address any incompatibility issues that might be present in the original file.
