Windows XP fully updated Using AVG 8 Free version 8.0.100 Database 269.23.7/1410 2 Mb Broadband connection via cable from virginmedia.com in UK Windows XP firewall off. Ashampoo firewall used normally but it makes no difference if switched off. Spybot resident usually on but makes no difference if switched off Previously had AVG 7.5 with no troubles at all Allowed AVG 8 Free to uninstal 7.5 March 31, 2009 16:46 Re: Update fails #7 Top trave Senior Join Date: 31.3.2009 Posts: 31 Only use one firewall... two can cause issues. Ashampoo is the better of the two you listed so that is what I'd suggest you use unless you don't like it for some reason. Also, when enabling/disabling a firewall always follow that with a reboot or in some cases your action will not be "active". Also verify your firewall permissions as stated

Posted by mmartin on May 10, 2011 10:36 AM yeah is it same issue though as we got that AVG needs to close yesterday but today its this unspecified error. Posted by Dominic Walsh on May 10, 2011 11:11 AM We believe it is the same issue discussed in the other thread (related to AVG program update 9.0.900) I'd recommend you check that AVG Watchdog (avgwdsvc.exe) and Resident Shield (avgrsx.exe) are still running after the error is reported. If not, open a ticket and consider reinstalling KES as the machine will not be protected in this case.
