Windows XP fully updated Using AVG 8 Free version 8.0.100 Database 269.23.7/1410 2 Mb Broadband connection via cable from virginmedia.com in UK Windows XP firewall off. Ashampoo firewall used normally but it makes no difference if switched off. Spybot resident usually on but makes no difference if switched off Previously had AVG 7.5 with no troubles at all Allowed AVG 8 Free to uninstal 7.5 March 31, 2009 16:46 Re: Update fails #7 Top trave Senior Join Date: 31.3.2009 Posts: 31 Only use one firewall... two can cause issues. Ashampoo is the better of the two you listed so that is what I'd suggest you use unless you don't like it for some reason. Also, when enabling/disabling a firewall always follow that with a reboot or in some cases your action will not be "active". Also verify your firewall permissions as stated in this http://free.avg.com/ww.f

Trenidor New MemberJoined:Aug 11, 2010Messages:4Likes Received:0 I keep getting a yes/no prompt from avgdiagex (I assume a service of AVGs) when I log into my computer. It just says "unspecified error occurred in AVG would I like to send diagnostic data to the https://windowsforum.com/threads/unspecified-error-occurred-in-avg-at-startup.79152/ AVG tech support department for analysis" It's annoying and worrisome (that I might have a virus somewhere causing it). Could someone please help me with? What other information/files will you need? -K #1 Trenidor, Apr 5, 2012 Dangaioh Senior MemberJoined:Jan 3, 2012Messages:299Likes Received:48 I found a similar post at the AVG forums: AVG Support Forums • View topic - Problems with AVG started yesterday..., one of the response led to a post to completely uninstall the software. I just recently opened an attachment from and email that I thought was safe and immediately after doing so my computer froze for a minute and then my AVG Anti-Virus showed a message saying there was an unspecified error and would I like to send a report. And then that was it. My computer seems to be working fine. I did a scan with AVG Anti-Virus and with Spybot S&D and neither one found anything. I then restarted my computer. Before shutting down and after every program had been closed it is still saying that there are background programs that have to be forced to shutdown. Upon rebooting I had a blackscreen for over a minute before my wallpaper image came up along with all of desktop icons. So I remember seeing something about a program called Hijack this. I use it and it is saying that it cannot write to the host file - I will have to do it manually, and will also not save a log file. Something is up. I don't know what it is but something has found its way onto my computer. I greatly appreciate your help. FYI - I am running 64-bit Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion dv4 Laptop with an Intel i3 Processor and 4 gigs of RAM. .
