To close the Command Prompt window, type “exit” (without the quotes) at the prompt and press Enter. Reboot your computer. You should now be able to install programs that use MSI installer files. To fix this problem in 32-bit Windows, open the Command Prompt window as described above. Fri, 17 Oct, 2014 at 12:19 PM PROBLEM When attempting to install a VIPRE product, the following error is received: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" ENVIRONMENT VIPRE Business VIPRE Business Premium VIPRE Email Security All Supported Environments SOLUTION When running the executable for installing VIPRE, the error message below appears shortly after the extraction of installer files is completed and an attempt is made to run the MSI file that was extracted.This error occurs when there is a problem with the current installation of the Windows Installer. More information about what might be causing this can be found from here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324516The instructions in the Microsoft provided article are for Windows XP, however, the instructions can be applied to other versions of Windows as well. For instance, there is no need to updgrade your installation of the Windows Installer if you are running Windows Vista or 7 as the version installed is higher than what is instructed in the article.Once the instructions are followed and the Windows Installer Service is repaired, proceed with the installation of VIPRE. If you continue to have this or other errors, please contact support. CAUSE These errors can occur with general computer usage.
