How to troubleshoot Event ID 51 warning message in Windows? powershell write error to eventlog Answer ID 3863 | Published 06/24/2002 11:36 AM | Updated 03/10/2011 09:05 PM The Windows System Event Log shows disc write error the following error messages: Event ID: 51 Source: disk Description: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3\DR3 during a paging operation. How can this warning be resolved? This information applies to the following https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/244780 Operating System(s): - Microsoft Windows 2000 - Microsoft Windows XP - Microsoft Windows Server 2003 - Microsoft Windows Vista - Microsoft Windows Server 2008 An Event ID 51 is a generic error for any type of error that is encountered when paging information to Input/Output (I/O). A paging operation is when the operating system either swaps a page of memory from memory to disk, or http://ask.adaptec.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3863/~/how-to-troubleshoot-event-id-51-warning-message-in-windows%3F retrieves a page of memory from disk to memory. It is part of the memory management of Microsoft Windows. However, every disk access is not necessarily paging I/O. It is possible for applications to perform non-buffered I/O to access disk data. Another misconception is that it is not writing to the page file (Pagefile.sys), which the name implies, but to any type of data access. See Microsoft Knowledgebase Article Q244780 for more information. An Event ID 51 is similar to an Event ID 9 or 11. An Event ID 51 only occurs during a paging I/O. If this same error were to occur when there was not a paging operation, an event would not have been logged, which is unlike an Event ID 9 or 11. An Event ID 51 can be troublehooted in the same manner as an Event ID 9 or 11. For additional information see Answer ID 15055. Was this answer helpful? Although the Windows Event Viewer lists write error to "vxio" as the source of these events, vxio is actually not the origin of the errors. During a read or write event, vxio sends the I/O request to the disk device drivers and waits for the outcome. If the outcome is an error, the error will be reported to vxio by the disk device drivers, and the event will be listed in the Windows Event Viewer with "vxio" as the source. However, vxio is not the original source of these messages. Solution The ability of Symantec to analyze these errors is limited since the origin of the messages lies outside the scope of Storage Foundation. However, to assist with determining the cause of these errors, common troubleshooting recommendations and best practices have been gathered below.BackgroundWhen Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW) is installed, the Microsoft Logical Disk Manager (LDM) drivers are replaced by Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) equivalents. This means that messages that would normally be reported by dmio are now reported by vxio. Read or write errors reported by vxio can be interpreted as if they were being reported by the standard Microsoft dmio driver. The errors, along as t

The Write Through Policy was a temporary solution till the new controller battery has arrived. x 233 Anonymous I've had three of these errors pop up on our Level Platforms alerts. One of them I was able to find the cause by simply installing Dell OpenManager Server Administrator and taking a look at the storage. The firmware driver was out of date. That would be a good first place to start. The other two alerts did not have a similar find. x 309 W4tch3r ‹•¿•› I am getting this error using multiple drives in a Shintaro USB3 drive caddy. After lots of drive and cable swapping I have discovered it happens because I have the drive caddy plugged into a Noontec USB3 hub. When I bypass the hub and go straight to the PC it does not happen. I do not know yet if the problem is with the Noontec hub or the Shintaro drive dock. x 315 Alexander Freudenberg In certain conditions, this error message is related to the S.M.A.R.T attribute 187 (Reported uncorrectable errors). When a physical sector of the disk is read by an application (e.g. a SMART test tool or a simple copy command) and a sector is "unstable", meaning that the drive electronics (hardware ECC) is unable to correctly read the sector, then Windows logs Event ID 11. To solve the error, a full SMART scan with repair (reallocation of unstable sectors) should be performed. x 352 Anonymous I got this error after buying a new power supply. Luckily I found the reason after trying every solution I found on the Internet. It seems that the jumper setting from my IDE drive, which worked with
