(BSOD) STOP: c0000221 Bad Image Checksum Started by galaxygirl http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/476847/help-bsod-stop-c0000221-bad-image-checksum/ , Nov 29 2012 08:21 AM Page 1 of 4 1 2 3 Next » Please log in to reply 57 replies to this topic #1 galaxygirl galaxygirl Members 28 posts OFFLINE Gender:Female Location:Phoenix, Arizona Local time:04:40 PM Posted 29 November 2012 - 08:21 AM First off, let me begin by stating that I am basically computer illiterate so I welcome any help I can get. The problem is that I cannot boot into Windows. It began after I tried to restart my ACER1640z laptop, which has Windows XP Pro, after allowing updates to install --Instead the BSOD came up with the following error message c0000221 {Bad Image Checksum}The image IEFRAME.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum. I've already tried booting with all of the F8 and F12 options without any luck. Unfortunately, I don't have any XP install disks or startup disk, OR anything backed up- I did manage (using another pc) to create a Recovery Console disk and was able to get as far as the C:\WINDOWS> prompt, BUT, I don't know what to do from here...Also, if it matters, I think I ha

Solved: error in loading xp, {bad image checksum} Discussion in 'Windows XP' started https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-error-in-loading-xp-bad-image-checksum.376622/ by willspiel, Jun 30, 2005. Came home after https://www.sitepoint.com/community/t/stop-c0000221-bad-image-checksum/2436 going out, and it wouldn't come back up (have monitor set to 'idle' when not in use). So, rebooted the machine. The XP loading screen comes up and the progress bulllet goes back bad image and forth , then a blue screen. At first it was just rebooting but I finally turned off automatic reboot. The blue screen says: STOP: c0000221 {Bad Image Checksum} The image olecli32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum. I've tried using my XP reinstallation disk, but it loads VERY slowly and then gives error messages like : missing usbuhci.sys error code bad image checksum 12800, or missing setupreg.hiv w/ same error codes! I can't even get windows to start in safe mode. Are there any suggestions? I am using XP Pro w/ SP2 installed. I've been googling this problem and have seen lots of mention of viruses. Definetely hope thats not the case. Thanks for the assistance. and earlier time. I told him it was worth a shot, so he did it and now when he starts his computer all he gets is a blue screen of death that reads: stop: C0000221 {bad image checksum}The image gdi32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum. Anyone know what is causing this or more importantly how to fix? EDIT: I did find these two links: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326687&Product=winxp http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?gdi32 As far as fixing this, replacing the corupt file seems to be the most logical choice, but since he is unable to start the computer because of this blue screen of death, how do I replace the file? Should it still let me load in safe mode? Then I can change it like that?Edit/Delete Message Virakor 2006-02-20 04:39:36 UTC #2 You could try safe-mode although I don't know if it will work because gdi32.dll is used in creating the visual aspect of Windows. Other Options:You could try loading windows into the command prompt and replace the file through there. Also there is the Windows recovery console on the CD if you load it in and boot from the CD. Also you could download a live CD version of Linux which will allow you to boot into Linux from the CD without installing anything. After you do that you can replace the DLL. Here is a link to a copy of the DLL file that is causing the problem: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?gdi32 Other than that I can't really think of anything. I hope this helps and if I didn't explain anything enough let me know. deronsizemore 2006-02-20 05:13:07 UTC #3 Virakor said: You could try safe-mode although I don't know if it will work because gdi32.dll is used in creating the visual aspect of Windows.
