The desktop errors mentioned a different filename than the netbook ones but it seemed to be the same problem. The desktop also had a bogus "Protection System" program trying to install itself and uninstall my Norton Internet Security. On the netbook, the error messages say GoogleUpdate.exe - Bad Image" and "DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\winhelper.dll not a valid Windows image." Whatever had hold of the computer wouldn't let me download most of these and the ones I could download I couldn't run. I have an external HDD case so I removed the HDD from the desktop and put it in the case, hooked it to another laptop that I have and ran AGV, Malwarebytes, Spybot and AdAware. Just a few days ago I have been having error dialogue boxes popping on my screen, usually when I open a program, or even during startup. It usually says: [program].exe - Bad Image The application or DLL c:\program~1\window~\datamngr\datamngr.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette. a number of these would pop-up consecutively it radically hinders my computer usage. Also, at one time, I booted up my computer to find my desktop had been changed, it was as if it was reset, all my icons were gone and the wallpaper/theme was back to the windows default. I was able to bring back my old desktop by system restore though, this instance did not occur again. I am using a Windows XP pc, SP3. I would be most grateful if someone could guide me remove this virus/trojan/malware from my computer. Thanks! Jun 29, 2011 #1 Bobbye Helper on the Fringe Posts: 16,335 +36 Welcome to TechSpot!
