I have tried everything for several months to fix my computer, including removing Malware etc. Apparently there is something wrong with the XP operating system. I do have the disks. Is there a way to reinstall without loosing my data, jpegs (I backed up most but there are over 3,000 where the trail is too long and they won't move over to my WD external). What about my Word Docs, Excel, and Scans? Can I stick this disk in and use it to "Repair" without loosing my Data? I need specific instructions for fixing this problem, including which disk I need to use. I think it's the "Orange" one labeled "Operating System" already installed on your computer Reinstallation DVD, Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with update rollup 2 (Dell)

Hi when i turn on my http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/windows-xp-bad-image-error.107236/ laptop, errors such as Isass.exe-bad image, googleupdate.exe-bad image, etc pop up about three times. and when the log on screen appears, some more errors pop up. after i log in, the wallpaper bad image shows up with no icons. i have tried accessing the task manager with ctrl+alt+del on the wallpaper screen, but another error just pops up saying "taskmgr.exe-bad image- the application or DLL C:WINDOWS/system 32/takavere.ll is not a valid windows image. please check this against your installation diskette"' i click ok, then another error: ctfmon.exe- bad image i click ok, and finally the last error says "task bad image error manager has been disable by the adminstrator" i tried starting up in all the different types of safe modes, and it just leads me to a blue screen that says "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage ...." my computer was like this since yesterday night, and maybe its from a program i downloaded right before it happened (corelvideostudios) although i was convinced it was safe because it came from download.com.... Open an elevated command prompt (start menu > All Programs > Accessories > right click command prompt, run as administrator) and type "sfc /scannow", let the scan finish and post results.. I think it's highly suspicious that your problems seemed to begin with this new software... Have you ran any virus or malware scanners? You should find this helpful.. :-) Reports: · Posted

A couple of days ago my system could not boot windows for one reason or another, by booting from my disk drive i managed to run the system restore CD successfully. Everything now runs fine and I have retained all my files and whatever, but a number of program not display a 'Bad Image' error as i try to run them, these programs include: Veoh TV Beta, Windows Messenger/Windows Live Messenger, Quick time player, iTunes. In a similar problem, Windows Media Player simply crashed immediately as i run it. Any help getting these programs running would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance. If that does not work, your current install is too corrupt. You can put the drive into a USB enclosure to possibly rescue your data, if any, but you will likely need a clean install for the most trouble free setup.
