I'm receiving the following error (WP 3.5): Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_set_password() in \path\to\plugin.php on line 18 Line 18 consists of simply: wp_set_password( 'newpass', $user_id ); This is located in the main plugin file, and all other code has been commented out in order to try and seclude this error. I have no idea why it's showing up as undefined. Am I missing something here?: fatal error call to undefined function wp_json_encode in http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_set_password Thanks plugin-development functions share|improve this question edited Jan 12 '13 at 1:45 asked Jan 12 '13 at 1:23 wesf90 1036 what action do you call this on? –Milo Jan 12 '13 at 1:39 I'm not calling it through an action. I originally had it placed inside of a function, but I received the error. So I placed it in the file all by itself and am still receiving the error. I've even manually defined the function (code here: wpseek.com/wp_set_password), but then I receive an error stating that wp_hash_password is undefined. –wesf90 Jan 12 '13 at 1:44 see my answer below –Milo Jan 12 '13 at 1:48 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted When your plugin loads, pluggable functions aren't loaded yet, in fact a lot of stuff is not loaded yet, this what actions are for. Hook your function to an action, like plugins_loaded or init, when the WP environment is loaded and initialized: add_action( 'init', 'wpa80246_init' ); function wpa80246_init(){ wp_set_password( 'newpass', $user_id ); } share|improve this answer answered Jan 12 '13 at 1:48 Milo 50.1k23664 Makes sense now. If you see http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/wordpress-error-call-to-undefined-function/ this error after replacing the old wordpress files with the new ones: Call to undefined function: _make_cat_compat() in /home/hongkiat/public/blog/wp-includes/category-template.php Solutions This is probably caused by the file category-template.php. Try re-upload the category-template.php file, and it should be fine. More Load More Posts © 2007‐2016 Hongkiat.com (HKDC). All Rights Reserved. I believe the function wp_insert_user will only allow you to add the default fields within the WordPress user table. Here is my current test code: $username = '12344'; $password = '1111'; $user_data = array( 'ID' => '', 'user_pass' => $password, 'user_login' => $username, 'display_name' => $loginName, 'first_name' => $firstName, 'last_name' => $lastName, 'role' => get_option('default_role') , 'user_secondry_email' => 'test@tst.com'// Use default call to undefined role or another role, e.g. 'editor' ); $user_id = wp_insert_user( $user_data ); wp_hash_password( $password ); I have found the add_user_meta function, but this requires an ID to add the metadata. obviously the user hasn't been created yet so they wont have an ID. Any ideas on how to get around this? If it is present, the user is updated, if not, it is created and the ID of the new user is returned by the function. share|improve this answer edited Sep 4 '12 at 16:56 John Kugelman 174k36306384 answered Sep 4 '12 at 14:56 Ricardo Rodriguez 500516 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote If I understand your problem correctly you want to add new user_meta to the current registered user. Here's how I did it. // this code insert the user, same on your code above just remove the ID field :) $new_userid = wp_insert_user( $user_data ); $is_success = add_user_meta( $new_userid, 'position', 'programmer', true ); if( $is_success ) { echo 'Successfully added'; } else { echo 'Error on u
