and I reinstall it and it starts working again. The images that were corrupt are still corrupt but the new images work fine. If I view the corrupt images in the camera it would give me a "Corrupt Image" message on the lcd or it would ERR 99 and lock up. I used my card reader to see what was on the card. There were a few images that were ok canon eos 20d manual but most of the files had a .ZPG extension and could not be opened or copied. There was also a bunch of folders named with very long numbers that could not be opened. So I placed the card back in the camera and tried to format the card with the camera. The camera went black. I turned the camera back on and now I get a CF ERROR. I've tried two different cf cards and two different batteries and all I get is a CF ERROR. If I remove the card the camera appears to work fine. I get the same results with any lens attached or with no lens at all. It then tried to format one of the cards with the pc but it didn't help. I can see one cf card going bad but not both. I took the battery out of the camera for 24 hours but it didn't help. I store my camera in a Nova 4 AW bag with the 24-70 attached and the camera in the OFF position. I move all photos from the cards to the pc with a card reader and never format the cards with the camera (maybe I should be doing this). Anyone have any ideas? Anything else I can try? What's

W/o card, lens and w/full battery it gives err 99. The shutter fires when the battery is inserted, and when the switch is moved every other position, off, on, or arrow. The shutter button itself is non-functional. Lifting the mirror and inspecting the shutter as suggested in Richards notes did not turn up anything. Gotta be the canon eos 20d elect. card inside. I'll just get a new camera and sell this one. For $99! Jack 05/11/2012 by Jack Add a comment 0/1024 Cancel Post comment Are you sure you want to delete this zzzzzz? This error is used for a lot of Canon DSLR errors, so it is hard to pinoint quickly. This could be the battery, memory card or a shutter failure. First, try a new CF card, and then run it without that one. If it doesn't crap out, it was the card. The next thing to try is the battery. Replace the battery and try again. Now, before we consider the camera dead try cleaning the lens contacts, or using a different lens as a last resort to the problem. If cleaning the contacts and replacing the lens does not work, the shutter went bad. Sadly, this isn't an easy fix for most people so you will likely have to go to a shop. It is possible, but you are tearing the whole camera down since Canon didn't intend for this to last more then 50k actuations due to the class of camera this is. Due to the age of the 20D if it is a body fault, I would consider the camera EOL unles

Only two weeks after acquiring this camera, it is already out of commission with a "CF ERR" message. When I try to view the photos that I have taken on the camera screen, it simply states No Image. I am using a 1 Gig (1024 MB) Compact Flash Card made by Kingston. I have no idea whether or not this is a good card. I was promised by the fast talking online salesman that this was a very good CF card, but I should have just waited to buy my accessories (if not my camera, as well) at a reputable store. In case it matters, this occurred while I was using a 17-85mm Canon IS lens, but I have also shot on this camera with a Sigma 80-400 mm OS lens. Will a new CF Card likely fix the problem? If I have to, I will send the camera back to Canon, as it is still well under warranty. I also feel that I may have been swindled by paying $399 for an extended Canon warranty (adding four more years). I was really stupid and just so excited about getting this camera that I ended up allowing myself to spend an extra $1,000 for a supposed long-life battery, 1 Gig of Memory, a set of three filters, a camera case, a tripod, a card reader that is already giving me problems, and the extended warranty. Trust me, I am tempted to tell American Express to refuse the charges and to return everything. Even the instructions for the camera arrived in only Spanish, although the company that I bought the camera from insists that the instructions are in 3 languages, although I have gone through them cover to cover and they are in only Spanish. The camera itself was an excellent bargain at under $1,700 USD including the 17-85mm IS lens, but they really stuck it to me with the accessories. I likely could have bought everything for just a little bit more locally at a reputable store and then been able to walk right in had there been any problems and exchange
